Heading into work on the interstate a couple of weeks ago and noticed a deer running in the grass on the right berm, directly against the direction of traffic. All I could think was "Don't do it!!" Fortunately, he stayed the course, at least until I passed. Can't imagine what an impact with a deer at highway speeds might do...
I have to admit hitting a dear is biggest fear. I live out in the country and several miles from town. I have both of my spot lights agled outward to watch the ditches. I spend more time at night watching the sides of the road than the road itself. Glad you are OK.
Been there .. etc.! Smacked one in the head with my knee one early morning! Stayed up,knee hurt like hell for a few minutes and motored on to work! Have been hinky about riding the bike to work every since! I have got two with my cage since then! Average about one a year! All on the way to work, on the same road! AH! Country living!! 35miles one way thru timber mixed with crop fields!
You should be allowed to stop and shot any deer you see and just let them lay. I remember the good old days when seeing a deer was very rare here in Ohio. They kill more people than any animal on earth.
The truck suffered some damage. The front bumper was a solid steel hunk of metal like a guardrail and it was bent at a 45 degree angle. The fiberglass hood cowling was shattered and full of deer hair matted with blood. On a bike at that speed, it would have been over.
