Just got a new set of floteing rotors & breaks for my 05 Ultra from Lyndall Racing. I looking for a new set of wheels now and ill put them on the bike.
Question, is there and advantage to have floating brake rotors over stock units?
Not really, mostly for looks in our applications. They may help reduce noise a bit but thats about it. No noticeable performance enhancements at all. If you want some performance enhancement, change your pads out, maybe add a set of SS brake lines to enhance brake pulse feedback.
I've had the teardrop floating rotors front and rear on order with Zanotti's HD since Nov 23rd. They've been on backorder and were supposed to be released from backorder on Nov 30th. Still no rotors yet. I did receive my Lyndal Z pads however from Direct Parts. But I won't be putting them on till I get the rotors. Well actually I won't be putting either on till I get my wheels back from Chrome Pros Plating out in Texas. And that probably won't be for another couple weeks factoring in the holidays.
Oh well, if it's cold enough to freeze me dogs poop outside, it's too cold to ride anyway.
Harley is using some floating rotors. They work better than non floating. As a matter of fact harleys "fixed" rotors are supposed to be a "floating" type roter that is fixed. What happens though is that the rotor stays a little warped and when you drive slow you can hear it scrape on and off. This is common with the HD rotor. A floating rotor will always stay centered, and will stay much cooler.
