For the Twinkie is 5500 RPM. Does this mean that I could run my bike all day long at 5500 RPM? Or, like cars, is this just the redline of maximum RPMs that you can hit for a short duration? If 5500 is not sustained, then what would be a good maximum number that would yeild the most reliability and long-term use of the engine?
My Shadow would run 3400 rpm on the highway sustained at 75-80mph. We take long trips, so we run this way for hours and hours and hours.
Yeah, like those silly speed limit signs, I take these kinds of things with a grain of salt... Seems like everyone is trying to cover their ***, I have not done it, but I am pretty sure you could run it at 5,500 all day, as long you are moving. My little 1400 trude was only a four speed, ran it over 100 for 600 miles with my girl plus another 50 pounds of bagage on the back, did I mention it was only a four speed?
If that little POS bike could do that, my Harley better be able to as well...
We never got under 100 mph on our way home from the harley drags a few weeks ago. Probably about 40 miles, no problems. No tach though, so I have no idea what the rpm's were.
last month blasted across TX & OK 90-95 mph and she just purred along. I been ridin HDfor many a yr,have never really worried about this stuff even on my old 64
