Default ride today

No point to this really, just sharing my experience today.

Wife is at a friends "silver" party spending money. So I wanted to go for a ride, asked my 13yr boy if he wanted to go on the back and if he feltcomfortable about it. Sure he wanted to go and could care less what anyone thought. He has only ridden 1other time.I told him I was talking about riding down the big slab But good on him. So we spent the day hanging out and riding. On way home we ate some supper and had some good conversation and then, on the way home, had a pickup in front of us loose its load of 4X8X1/2 pressboard. It was scary as **** and I had just got telling momma on the cell how I was gonna be home before dark cause I had her "baby" on the back. I rode it out and managed to miss them and got the bike pulled over and asked my son to get off. He was pretty well composed, I on the other hand was a little shook and a little PO'd. The pickup was backing up and stopped in front of me. I pulled around in front and shut down and got off. The passenger (older lady) asked me if I was OK and did we get hit. I just looked at her and asked why the load wasn't tied down? and how my son and I where lucky to be alive because her husband (who is picking the stuff up and loading it) was to lazy to tie a load down in a pickup. Guess I calmed down by this point. I went and helped him load it up and he didn't say word... last one was on and he said "I didn't think it was that slippery... I have a rubber mat in the bed". I looked over and told him "the bottom sheet never left the bed, tie your load down before you kill someone." Walked back to the bike fired up loaded boy climbed on and we got in right before dark. hmmm now should I tell momma before the son tells her...she does know we are home safe.

Default RE: ride today

I've lost a load out of the back even when it was tied down. I absolutely refuse to follow a loaded pick-up with the tail gate down, or loaded higher than the bed, or loaded on a ladder rack with anything but 2 ladders. Too much chance they will loose the load. I now tie down and IN, at least one strap around the back of the load to the front of the bed.
