I just replaced mine(SE)and my broinlaws filter today with K&N HD0800's.My old SE filter looked OK while my broinlaws with about 4000 miles was splitting apart at the rubber backing.
Both of these were SE filters with the white element, black rubber molding.

Don't use the SE AC. I had one put on with the stage 1 before I picked up my bike, and after about 500 miles, the piece of shiit started coming apart.Pieces were sucked in the bike, resulting in difficult starting and puffs of blue smoke form the AC. There were numerous posts on here about the blue SE AC, but I thought I lucked out and got the black one. Not so. The dealer gave me a new K&N that they had a lyin around. No blue smoke since. My two cents is to pay a little more for the K&N.
How can I tell which kind I have?
When I mentioned blue/black, it was in reference to the rubber part on the AC. On the SE AC, I think it says "do not oil". Mine went back to the dealer as soon as I saw it coming apart. Of course they said they would keep replacing them. I said whats the point if the same thing was goin to happen. The K&N filter material is sorta reddish. That is from the oil you have to put on after cleaning them. The K&N have a 1 millon mile warranty. Do a search, a lot of posts on this issue.

Mine has black rubber, so I should be okay.

EDIT: I just ordered it about3 months ago, so it's really new.

6K miles on my SC AC and it is fine, just looked. But yes you need theair/fuel mixture to be corrected. I would just buy a SERT and have it dynoed. The cost of the download ($140.00) plus a half hour or so for them to download it into your bike would go a long way to pay for the SERT. JMHO =) maverick
