I am going to ride my bike as much as possible this winter here in Colorado. I wasn't going to use "stable". Will it be okay in the freezing temperatures? How long can a tank of gas last till it goes bad?
I don't think you need fuel stabilzer unless you're not going to ride the bike for a few months. If you plan on riding at least once every couple of months, I wouldn't use the fuel stabilizer. Mostly it's if you're going to store the bike forthe season.
It's supposedly 30 days. I leave my old Ford tractor sit sometimes a year and half, and it always fires right up (once I charge the battery). If you have to use stabilizer, use Sea Foam fuel additive. Heard bad things about Stabil.
The other thind I've been reading about lately is the Fitch Fuel Catalyst. http://www.fitchfuelcatalyst.com/
I've uses Stabil for years and swear by the stuff. Put it in, if you run her dry put more in. It ain't gonnna hurt anything, and if you can't ride it, your gas will not go to ****.
For many years I have stored (that is, not run at all) everything in my garage except my car and one motorcycle for the entire winter (first to last application of salt, which in western PA generally means mid-November until late March). That includes my pickup and three or four motorcycles (I run one motorcycle all winter on those days without snow or ice on the roads). I have never used Stabil or anything in the gas and have never had the slightest problem in the spring with the starting or running of any of them.
However, my garage is never outside the temperature range of 50° to 70° and never above 60% relative humidity. I suspect that gasoline deterioration occurs more rapidly if you keep a machine in an unheated shed or drafty garage.
