We got "sold" a little bottle of Doc Bailey's leather condtioner at Sturgis. Turned out to be the best $20 we ever spent on gear. It absolutely made our leathers waterproof, even in heavy rain. We used it on everything--coats, boots, chaps and pants. It beads water on our leathers like wax on a windshield, and does a really nice job on fixing the scuffs marks.
Highly recomended.
That's what I use,,,,,, I thinkit's best to have a rain suit for rain,,, chaps are good if you don't have a rain suit,,,, for sure better than just blue jeans,,,, and leather treated with DB's does good in the rain.
Living in the Northwest I have to ride in the rain a lot, windshield goes on in late Sept, overpaints always in tourpak, and I treat my leather jacket with pine pitch and mink oil once a month in the rainy season (Oct-March) I stay dry pretty dry. Peace.
hubby and i got our first harley today! yes "ours" i have the back seat. it's a 08' heritage classic! loves it!!! anywho...of course we had light rain showers, but i gota ride anyway and a little wet. wore jeans and a sweatshirt. don't have our leather gear yet. was wondering what we should do in rain. thanks for all the info...doc bailey's, rainsuit and leather...does life get any better???
Gotta agree......... get a rain suit, keep it in the bag. Just don't forget you have it in there like I did going from Ocean City to Salisbury in pouring rain wondering where I had put them.... duhhhh[&:]
You can get away with a cheapie rainsuit from Walmart for about $5.00. Good for one or two wet outings - better than nothing and it takes up almost no room.
Been there, done that.
Just got some kevlar chaps from Colorado Chaps. They're waterproof, but won't keep your privates dry. The cheapie leather ones I bought this spring have about had it. Also just bought a HDrain suit and rain gators. Found out that my old rain jacket and waterproof gloves leaked about a month ago riding back to Billings from Minneapolis - rain all the way through Wyoming for 5 hoursand it was 43 degrees. Boots were soaked too, even though they were heavily treated with Sno-seal and mink oil. Only thing that savedmy feet were the wool socks.Dug out my Glacier Gloves (waterproof ice fishing gloves from my days in Minnesota) and added them to the pile. I'm not ever getting that wet and cold again. Thank goodness my goretex pants that I was wearing under my leather chaps didn't leak or I'd be posting in a higher voice.
