I had a problem once with a bad vent on the gas tank. It was basically vapor locking the fuel in the tank so that it couldn't gravity feed to the carb to keep up with demand at high RPMs.

Saw a post similar to this, turned out to be the wrong after market gas cap and wouldn't vent......... The guy drilled a small hole in the cap and never had another problem. Said he got the bike real cheap becaus it wouldn't stay running.
Sorry...1965 Panhead. Lots of stuff has been changed..I inhereited it so I dont know all the details. Super E carb , 800 miles on fresh rebuild(before I got it) belt primary, chain drive. I already screwd up the crank seal, so I'm looking to fix little things I've noticed at the same time. I have a manual on the way(clymer) it was the only one I could find, and a couple of folks say that they are kinda vague...It's
what kind of petcock are you useing some of the earlier ones could not keep up with the flow of the s&s carbs and had to install a high flow petcock, also check your internal screen filter
and by the way here is a oe harley manual http://www.jpcycles.com/productdetai...e=&search=
Thanks for all your input. I was kinda leaning towards carb issues and now I'm gonna get an s\s book. I never would have thought of the petcock and or tank cap restriction,so I'll investigate. thanks for the link to the manual too.
I have a 2002 Electra Classic. My oil pressure indicator drops to zero when the engine gets to running temp. It begins to feel like the accelerator is being forced to respond. Kind of like a resistance. Before that it runs and shows normal. Any ideas? I am at a loss to figure this out without investing my life savings at HD

You will probably get better answers by starting your own thread rather than replying to one that dealt with a different problem 4 years ago.
My first guess is that you may be low on oil or overdue for an oil change (mainly because it is the cheap easy fix) If your oil is fresh and full skip this.
Second thought is the oil pump.
