Default Race Tuner and Cams ordered!!

Just got back from my dealer a little while ago. 15% off sale today so I ordered my Race Tuner and Cams. I'm gonna have my dealer install them after the first of the year. I'm with the SE211 cams and I'm going to have my cam chain tensioners checked/replaced at the same time. I know, probably should put gear driven cams in but I'm not a high milage guy anymore (around 6-10,000 per year) so I just couldn't see the extra money in a six year old bike. The 211's will give me what I'm looking for (speed and performance from mid range and up). I'm all about performance and I've checked into a lot of different cams. I have more low end torque than I need so I'll give up a little there but gain it elsewhere.

I also picked up my Christmas presents today. Skull series front and rear floorboard inserts and skull series dash insert. I'm hoping for a few more skull goodies from other family members but Lisa bought these today while they were 15% off. I also got my new Tank set that Harley is giving away. My dealer also gave me the 1st tank set from two years ago. He had a few set aside and asked me if I had gotten one. When I said "no" he went to his office and got me one.

Really looking forward to getting started on my bike after the 1st of the year. I'm also going to install the hog tunes and hidden antenna (sp).

From all of the talking up about the SERT you've done lately Terry, I assumed you already had one. Good luck on the new cam's, let us know how it works out for ya.
For your bike being six years old it sure look darn nice.

Thane,

I have been working with two dealers who us the SERT on almost all their bikes and have ridden numerous bikes before and after the install. I could not believe the difference. I had a Power Commander until last Spring when it went bad. My bike came stock with the Stage II download from the factory and really doesn't do too bad (80 hp) with the Rineharts and air cleaner upgrade. I have also sit in on several Dyno tuning sessions using the SERT and have seen the tuning grid that allows them to dial in your bike. I've just been waiting to do the upgrade when the time and price was right. It's cold out and it was on sale so I guess this was it.

I should have my SERT on Monday, I'll schedule some dyno time with the dealer after it gets here. I sure hope that they know what their doing, I was down there talking to the owner of the dealership and he said that they just had a bunch of their mechanics go through the SERT class. I hope their not going to use my bike to experiment on.

Thane,

A good dealer can download a map that is closest enough to ride with no problem. I have seen bikes run fantastic without ever touching a dyno. The dealer can download, ride the bike, pull the info up and make adjustments without a dyno. Granted, it is easier using a dyno but it can be done. If you are really gonna tweak every little grid (and there are a bunch) then the dyno saves alot of time. The dealer I bought mine off of does not have his dyno yet so he will dial it in as close as he can and make sure the bike is running good before it leaves. Then I will take the bike to another dealer for the final dyno tune. I'll post my results.

Terry I'm glad you are doing what you want, don't let that molded money get stuck together , but I would like to see you put in gear drives on the cams, even though you don't do 10,000 miles a yr, you will be putting bit's and pieces of those tensioners in your filter, or at least what they catch.
Your decision though, just my .02cents.

I agree, go to your local dealer's and see if any of them have a set of cam tensiones they pulled out of a bike. Once you see them you will want to take that garbage out of your bike even if you only ride 20 miles a year. The gear drives are worth the extra money if ya ask me, but again just my .02cents. Good luck with what ever you decide.

I know, I know,

I'd like to put the gear driven cams in too but I just can't see spending the extra money right now. I'm gonna check my tensioners before I make a final decision but I'll probably go with the 211's. I've looked at several sets of tensioners at my dealers. Some look really good and others look like sh-t. I don't understand the difference. I looked at a set the other day that had 30,000 miles on them and they were worn about 50% but were still in decent shape. I've seen some at 10,000 miles that looked worse. We'll see how things go. I appreciate the advice and I knew I was gonna get alot of it.
