Default LOH question

Just wondering if your chapters are similar. Last year our LOH president rode a Yamaha V Star 650. This year our pres doesn't even ride her own bike. Is this a common occurrence throughout LOH chapters countrywide and is this really ok with Harley? Seems to me the president should bea rider and should ride a Harley???? I have nothing against people riding other bikes and have a couple of different brands in my own garage but I always ride the HOG to chapter meetings and such. It also seems to me that the LOH is simply a group to help the main chapter make more money. Our meetings are attended by more men than ladies and when I dared to suggest a ladies ride only I was looked at like I had suddenly grown 2 heads. Most meetings I and a friend are the only 2 ladies that actually ride our bikes to the meeting. I think if the meeting was for ladies only there would be more friendships formed and the new lady riders would feel more like they could ask "stupid" newbie questions.Just curious if your local LOH meetings are the same type deal?

The LOH chapter at our dealership is extremely active. Most if not all ride HD's.They take at least two long weekend trips during the year. They also do a ride most every month. Men are invited on their rides but they are mostly attended by the LOH members. Your chapter soundsa little unique.

No, they're nothing like yours. Our LOH is attended by women, that's why it's called "Ladies of Harley."Some of your guys may need some counseling (do they wear pink leather too?) Some of the Road Captains walk over after their meeting, because their wives are LOH, but that's about the extent. LOH members should either be individual members or hold an associate member from someone who is. If those qualifications aren't met and they don't have a Harley, they can't be LOH officers. By that I mean, they have no individual/associate sponsorship and they don't own a Harley either. The only way someone can belong to a HOG club is either having a Harley or be sponsored by someone who does and is a member of the club.
Our LOH do in fact have Ladies only rides and the only men are the R/C if any female R/Cs don't happen to be available. Our group is primarily focused on charity work for Thanksgiving and Christmas family support, so yes, they "make money," but it's in support of those two events as opposed to putting cash in the general slush fund. Hope this helps.

LOH is not 100% owner/rider. My wife is an assoc. National which makes her an LOH and she rides passenger. You don't want her on a bike as a rider. She will tell you that. She is active LOH and does a lot for the chapter.

1200Babe, I would suspect, but don't know, that there are many different variations in the LOH clubs. Perhaps moreso that the "men's" groups. First off, I wouldn't see that a LOH member should be required to own her own bike. There are LOTS of valuable ladies in LOH chapters that ride with their hubbys. I have no problem with that. I think it's wonderful that they are involved. As far as the Pres riding anything except a HD, that I would have issue with. On a BIG scale. This is a HD owners group, and it is supported most times by a HD dealer. Therein lies the problem. While there are other clubs, like Christian clubs and the Patriot Riders wher it would not be any sort of issue, the LOH is a branch of the HOG. Riding something else just doesn't fit in the scheme of things, IMO. I'm not trying to be snobbish or trying to "segregate" the riding community, but HOG is the HARLEY Owners Group, not the Harley/Yamaha/Honda Owners Group.

If something is bothering you this much, (and it seems like it is since you went so far as to post it here) I would definitely voice my opinion. You are a member same as anyone else, and your opinion is as valuable as another. Just be warned.......you might have to back-up your opinions and concerns with bold and well-versed statements. Be ready to defend yourself verbally if you approach this in the LOH meetings. Hang in there and stand up for your rights as a member. Above all else, try your best to keep any discussion civil and calm. After all.....we're all in this for the same reasons, right?

Our chapter has an LOH officer. As far as I know there is no designation for "LOH President" from HOG national.

All local chapter members must currently be either HOG national full / life or associate members.

There are no other qualifications, including gender, that I am aware of to be a part of LOH.

Our chapter does require that the LOH officer ride an HD product either as rider or passenger.

A chapter can not hold events that exclude current members based on gender, race, religion, etc. so there can be no "Ladies Only" events.
This restriction does not preclude LOH from organizing an event that would be distasteful for males to attend. Since we have many female associate members that ride on the b-pad, they have been known to coerce the men into taking them to said distasteful events.

Our LOH Officer last year did not ride, and she was the sweetest most charitable person I've ever met. Her husband is very involved and contributes greatly thru his union to our causes.

The LOH Officer this year does ride and owns her brand new bike. As far as making money, it's for the chapter or causes that they support. The LOH has at least a monthly ride, but both sexes are encouraged to attend. Would I attend an LOH meeting if my wife was not a member? probably not, but I'm there to support her and next year, as I'm an elected officer, will have to attend.

Oh no, don't even mention ladies only in our Chapter!! I tried that ONCE!

Have a thick skin! Our current LOH Officer is a passenger. She has done a fabulous job of getting a great group of people together to organize some very difficult events. Unfortunatley one of our testosterone bullies pushed her too far and she said that was enough and will not be continuing next year. Believe it or not there are still men that don't like women in a riding organization!

NOTHING but a Harley! I snuck in with my Suzuki for a while when I first met my DH who was already a member, but boy they let it be known they wanted that riceburner outta here and like yesterday!

All of our LOH Officers have been riders, including myself, up until this latest one, and I have to say, the current one did the best job, by far!

HOG is a really great organization, and as much as I hate the politics that are in it, as in any volunteer organization, I still love the comraderie and the events.
