I currently have a K&N with just the round cover over it (took off the football). I'm drastically changing the look of the bike over the next month. It's going to be tribal and spiked. Tribal paint, spiked controls, axle covers, etc. I thought about the spike air cleaner but was warned off because it sticks out too far and not being a tall guy, my leg will be firmly press against it to use the brake. So, I'm considering a hypercharger but was wondering if you guys had any other suggestions. If I could find a reasonably priced round cover, I'd just go that route but most of what's available is skull or flame. Ideas?
Okay, so now you guys are making my options even more limited!!! So what would some of you suggest if stock just won't cover it and there won't be any skulls or flames anywhere on the bike?
Have you ever looked at www.deweyspegs.com . He has a shop just North of me, but I never knww it. Then I was reading an old Hot Rod Bikes magazine, and ran across his work. Then a local forum member suggested him, as well. Also, he has a couple of write ups on Biker net. Just an idea. BTW, and FWIW. I think the hyper charger looks like ****. I wouldn't have it on my bike, if it was given to me. Besides, I have read a lot about it making a lot of clatter from those butterfly openings.
Forget about the hypercharger if you are concerned about reaching the brake. I recently changed from a D&M spike to a hypercharger and the hypercharger made it harder to reach the brake than the spike air cleaner. It may not stick out quite as far but the hypercharger is much wider. As far as performance goes, I didn't notice any difference in the city, but on the freeway, I did notice a increase in throttle response. Air cleaners are marketing B.S. as far as horsepower goes. I don't think it's reasonable to consider a performance gain from an air cleaner. K&N claims lots of HP added from their products but it only applies to modded engines that exceed the capabilities of a stock air cleaner. Put one on anything even close to stock and there will be no difference in HP. The reguler S&S super air cleaneris plenty capable of feeding air to any mods you might make to your engine. I wonder how they dyno tested a hypercharger without an 80MPH wind anyway?Obviously a ram air system won't perform in still air. Just buy the air cleaner that looks best on your bike and don't worry about BS dyno tests.
