not that it makes a bunch of difference, but did he have the factory HD security system? Was it armed? did he have a siren installed? were the forks locked?
Certainly, these don't stop a pro, but interested if they still stole the bike (like lifting it) or did they bypass the security system and drive it away?
Ok here is the whole speal as close to being accurate/remembered as possible.
"I had pulled the bike out of the garage and just reinstalled the taller windshield on it because of fall weather. I had just wiped it down and noticed that the time was. I was going to be late to my Grandson's football award ceremony. Instead of taking my bike, I figured I would be able to bring the grand children back to my house for dinner, I just through my jacket into the trunk and left in the car. The bike was in the front yard driveway. Broad daylight out. I left to the ceremony which was two blocks away at the local church outside. My son and I were sitting outside watching the ceremony when we both heard a Harley race down the street. I turned to look at my son and said 'boy that sure sounded like my bike'! Never did I realize that it was. When I got home after the ceremony which lasted all of one hour I noticed my front door to my house was open. I thought 'how weird is that? Did I leave in that much of a hurry?' I looked inside all around to see if anything was missing and didn't see anything gone when all of a sudden I got this sick feeling in my stomach. I ran outside and looked and the sure enough my bike was gone. I don't know if I locked the bike for sure. I don't know if the fob was in the jacket which was in the trunck. I don't know if I left the keys and fob on my table and they broke in or walked in and took it. Because I left in such a hurry, I am not sure exactly what I did wrong. I saw my neighbor outside and I asked him if he saw what happened and he said that he heard the bike take off but thought it was him and not someone stealing the bike."

I just added a keyless alarm< It just keeps the honest people honest. If they want it, 4 guys and a van and off they go. Maybe not as easy with a bagger because of it's size. I remember a few years ago they were stealing customs at bikeweek in the public lots. they had a barrel key that would work on the rotor locks and in less than three minutes drive the bike off.
Dang!!! Steal a metric, money, a wife, a car, a beer, a dog... but stealing a Harley is just not human. (Well, actually stealing a dog may even be worse.) Sorry for your brother! Quite a lot of royal scum out there. Hope whoever stole it eventually gets "lead poisoning".
Tri-Cities Washington. Yes he has insurance and Gap insurance. No idea if he is protected the amount of all the upgrades though.

Glad he had gap insurance 'cause that's where the real pain comes in. Bad enough as is and I would be pissed but imagine losing what you put into it on top of all the aggravation.
The thing that gets me the most is, you hear of people having Harleys stolen, but I always thought it was a rarity. After hearing the facts scares me.
Local dealer said that here not too long ago, a guy came in, bought a Harley, signed the papers, rode right across the street, less then 100 yards and parked it. Went in side to talk to someone and came out in less then 20 minutes. Someone had stolen it.
