Sorry to hear about your brother's bike being stolen. Lesson learned? Lock the forks, security system on....if thieves really want my bikes, they'll have to get a cherry picker!! I lock both bikes even in the garage. Never, even leave your scoot parked in your driveway. If I have to be gone for several days in the car, I unplug the garage door opener. Can't trust anyone anymore.
Sorry to hear about the bike , man that`s just sick ! Iwas just thinking....how many times I have went to get gas and walked insidestanding there waiting to pay with my back to the bike which was unlocked at the time .............not anymore , locking forks 1st..
Man that sucks..as a side note, I was really mad at my dresser one time, it was running like crap..Parked it in a Walmart parking lot unlocked on a Saturday afternoon..Went in for @ an hour, when I came out it was still there..we made up and I was glad nobody took her...
So what happens to stolen Harleys. Local dealer says most often two scenarios take place.
1. One-way trip somewhere, dropped off after the ride.
2. Chop shop where the parts are sent to Germany. (Why Germany I have no clue.)

That's what I've always heard.
Like I'd posted before...the few stories I've heard always state the bikes getchopped out within hours.
Folks getting busted in the act and such.

I always lock my bike, double lock it on my back patio every night, with a motion detector pointed at it. I only have a single car garage, so there's no room for it and my truck both in my garage. I even lock my bike when I go to Harley dealers and indies on it, like I did today.I grew up in a kind of 'rough' neighborhood, blue collar and whatever, and well I saw my share of bikes stolen and so forth, so I learned at a young age. Your brother just learned a lesson he will never forget. Too bad he had to learn it the hard way, but at least someone didn't hold a gun to his head to take it, or shoot him to take it.Something else to consideralong withlocks is a locating device installed somewhere discreetly on your bike. There aregetting to be moreof them out there these days, and a satellite can quickly give the location of any vehicle that employs one of these devices.I recommend at least two locks on every bike, the fork lock and something on the rear wheel as well, seeing how they're often stolen by 3 guys who lift up the front end and roll them to a truck or van with the fork lock still locked.A friend of mine was in a bar once, when he happened to notice some guy trying to steal his bike right in front of the bar, fortunately for my friend, who ran outside and chased the SOB to a waiting car, where they sped away.Always, always, always lock your bike. As your brother found out, they can be stolen quite quickly and quite easily if you don't. And they often are.
