Default H-D Smart Siren

Hi everyone, I recently had a birthday and a couple of my friends threw in a few dollars and got me a gift card from the local dealership. So I took a ride over there yesterday to see what they have. I was looking at the HD Smart Siren for my 2004 Electra Glide Classic which has the security system but not the siren. In the product description it says battery operated. Does that mean I need to put batteries in it, or does it hook up to the bikes battery? If it does use the bikes electrical system, is it plug and play or do I need to splice some wires to install it? And last, do any of you have it and what do you think of it? Thanks.

PS, what is up with HD putting a "Security System" on a bike then leaving the most important part of the system out? I mean come on, no siren, what the Hell are those stupid flashing lights supposed to do anyway?

If you are talking about the smart siren kit with part number 68328-02, I think the replaceable internal battery is there to ensure that the unit will continue to work if someone cuts the wires connecting it to the bike's electrical system. Otherwise, it relies on the bike's battery as its main power source. It should have a simple plug-in connection to the bike's existing wiring.

It comes with a battery in the siren and is for what Simon said, in case the battery is disconnected. Simple plug and play installation as well. Some people have had trouble with it killing thier main bike batteries, but I am yet to have a problem as I ride my bike quite often. The "alarm" without the siren is a mystery, or a ploy to get you to buy the siren. HD marketing.

it is self contined with a battery, charged off the charging system. I agree, without the siren, the security system is like a deaf mute motioning to try to tell you your house is on fire.

You seem to be forgetting that it also keeps the bike from startingwhen it's activated. I bought the Smart Siren II and Pager II which makes the system complete.

What they said. The only thing I don't care for is occasionally when I get on my bike it will give a warning chirp like it doesn't sense the fob I'm carrying. Kind of sounds like R2D2 on StarWars.

That chirp is just your bike welcoming you back and asking where to. Kinda like a dog barking when you walk in the door.

There are two different systems out there. On the older bikes(not too sure what year the change was made) the fob has a button, and it must be pressed and held to activate the system. The siren will sound two chirps and flash the t-signals twice to let you know its armed. When you come back to the bike you have to press the key fob button twice rapidly(double click) to deactivate the system....the lights will flash once to let you know you were successful.

On the newer systems the key fob has a "proximity" sensor in it....and as soon as you turn the bike off and move away with the fob in your pocket the system arms itself....flashing the lights and chirping the siren. The system stays armed until you return and the fob is again in proximity with the bike.

My 2003 SE-Deuce came with the alarm system w/sireen.....and my 2008 Street Glide it was a option (IIRC), and did not include the sireen....yes it is on my list of things to get real soon.

Mine has the type you have to push the button to arm.

not forgetting it at all. kinda assumed everyone would know about it disabling the ignition. but this doesn't do much to prevent a couple of guys with a pickup truck or trailer, just loading up the bike and throwing it into the back of the truck. with the siren, you at least have some sound that may deter them for easier pickings. when on the road, I also cable the bike to an unmovable object.

course, this only works with the amateurs. if they want your bike bad enough, they will get it. but, i make it as difficult as possible, hoping they will go elsewhere.
