and i don't mean the freedom, love of 2 wheel thing.
some people use the bike as their primary transport. they commute to and from work.
i use public transportation to get downtown chicago. if i worked west or north or south of home then i might use the bike to get to work.
so why do i ride.
pretty much only for enjoyment. there is almost never a reason that i "have to" use the bike. there is always a 4 wheel vehicle available. since my wife doesn't/won't ride with me, i don't use the bike when she is in the equation, except for the rare occassion when she knows i want to ride and we meet someplace. the price of gas is not an issue because again i use public transportation which is cheaper than gas, wear and tear and parking.
when do i ride.
whenever i can sneak it in around the other activities.
sometimes after i get home from work i buzz out for an hour or 2 or 3. stop at some 7-11 and grab some food, find a park or country rode and have dinner. went out last tues for 3 hours from (for those of you who know chicagoland) lagrange using butterfield and went to geneva, atealong the fox river, then came back home.
sometimes will do a whole saturday or sunday - like 8am till 6pm or so - just meandering.
sometimes will just pop around for 45 minutes to 'clear the head'
have done week long vacas twice this year
have used it for quick chores, but then i always take the really long way there and back. - like a 1 mile ride actually is 10 miles.
but never am i in a situation where i have to ride the bike for anything other than enjoyment or even in a situation where there is a goodlogical reason to use the bike.
Everywhere I need to go, provided their is no snow on the ground... Or when with someone who either does not have their own bike or doesn't want to ride on the back (i.e. my girlfriend once it's below 60).
I ride becuase a 140 mile commute daily on a car would be too expensive and very borring...
Same as the above. I live about 22 miles from where I work so I get a good deal of miles on the bike that way. Here in Kansas it is hard to ride year around but I rode in this morning. It was 39 and fine.
I ride for sport on the local rural roads, usual rides are 50-100mi at a time. The bike is also my backup when my pickup is down. I ride to work occaisionally and the last time I had an accident that busted up the bike and my leg. Won't be riding until I rebuild the chopper and heal my right ankle enough to kick it over. Will be a while!
I ride for any reason... Need beer? Need milk? bread? I'll get it! Baggers come in handy... I can get two bottle six packs in each saddlebag on my RKC... to work round trip 60 miles every day... Only park it when there is ice on the ground or I'm hauling something in my pickup...
25 degrees when I left the house to work this morning... Chilly, but still beats a cage.
