Default confused about stage 1 upgrade

After reading the appropriate forums, I am confused as to whether I should attempt any exhaust, air, tuner upgrades, as it sounds like it is one continuous experiment. Just purchased a 2002 Road King Standard with 2500 miles, and it just doesn't seem like it has much power. Great handling bike, but would like a louder exhaust note, PLUS power. It seems like the PCIII does the trick for many, but can I do it myself? If not, which one is user friendly? Any help appreciated.

I installed a Rev Tech Stealth DFO (fuel management) a Ness Big Sucker-Stage1 (air cleaner) and Khrome Werks HP-Plus Slip-On mufflers and I'm tickled to death with all three. Easy installs and everything set me back about $580.

PCIII, Slip on mufflers and a K&N air filter. Piece of cake to install. But it won't stop there. You will be hooked and forever in debt!!

yes you can do it yourself (install a pcIII), and of course you can install an air cleaner and a set of slip-ons ,a screw driver and a couple of sockets is all it will take.now as far as power, well your engine will only produce so much power.cahnging your exhaust and air cleaner and even installing a pcIII wont give you that tire smokin' difference you might expect! if you want to change the exhaust note well yeah you must change the exhaust. keeping in mind that your r/k is air cooled you must make sure that whatever mods you make dont raise the temp. of your bike, thats where a product like a pcIII comes in. not only is it adjustable to those mods you add-on but it will keep your bike running lean by increasing the air/fuel mixture (when properly adjusted). do it yourself save some cash, unless your a high roller!!!
