Hi All
Im new to this forum just got my first harley 2005 electraglide classic i was given a pair of sampsons and all I want to know is can I just put these on without any upgrades Im happy with the performance I just want that nice harley sound but I dont want to ruin the engine Im getting so many opinions I have efi thanks for the help
You will have to remap the EFI(or have someone do it if you're not so inclined). I would suggest going stage 1 air cleaner and a power comander computer(there are many different brands of this) at the same time. There are many options out there though so take your time and figure out what you want to do before you spend money to try something.
I would suggest that if you have the pipes, put them on and try as is. Some bikes will not need any mods to mapping, especially if you are not changing air cleaner. Due to manufacturing variences not all bikes react the same. I have had a number of bikes over the years and I have done this with no problems at all. It would be more of an issue if you are changing air filter.[sm=americanasmiley.gif]
Welcome to the board, and smile as you drive through my old home town of Arlington [ I don't miss Massachusetts taxes!!]
Scott,
If all that you are going to upgrade are the slip-on mufflers, then you will be fine and you will not need to remap. If you upgrade the air cleaner to the SE Stage I (which by the way, will allow you to feel the difference that the mufflers will make), then you will need to either have the dealer, download the new map into the ECM or install an aftermarket programmable ignition system like the Dynojet Power Commander III usb. The remap enables the correct fuel mixture for all throttle settings. If you need any other info about this upgrade, then send me an email.
You're being told right...with only the pipes, you don't need a remap...if you open up the intake, you will need to remap the ECM. Simple bolt on, you can do it in your garage.
