I know stage one questions are everywhere, but...
Is there any advantage to doing the air cleaner and PC commander, (or SERT, fuel pak, etc.) with the stock exhaust? I'd like to get more performance, just not louder.
Has anyone done this?
The Power Commander alone will net you a little bit, since it will richen up the mixture which comes from the factory in EPA-Super Lean mode. The AC will help too, but will be much more effective with a better set of free flowing mufflers. Stuffing more air into the motor won't work, unless you can get it out through the exhaust. The stock exhaust is quite restrictive. I changed mine to SE slip-ons and noticed an immediate improvement.
Replacing the pipes is necessary to develope the full potiental from the Stage I air cleaner. They will increase the noise level a lot but it stirs the blood in your soul, if you know what I mean. I just did V&H BigShot Staggered Pipes on my 05 Deluxe and its awsome! Lets the engine breath! My wife is not so happy with the noise level so we will have to use the little foam earplugs for longer trips.
