I do that all the time while riding. And since discovering my throttle lock I can enjoy my coffee on my morning commute as well. That's my version of "hands free"
Herr.....I always have trouble with the paper blowing out of my hand while I'm reaching for my coffee.....what do you do?
Cell phones are a problem, they should be banned in cars. I actually saw a guy eating a bowl of cereal in his car while driving, I mean milk, spoon bowl the whole thing, no joke. I didn't know if I should laugh or be afraid.
Saw a study done by a US University a couple of years agothat compared the driving ability of someone talking on a cell phone with someone who had a .08 blood alchohol content. They concluded that talking on the phone was at least as bad as marginal drinking. In fact (and I'm relying on my somewhat feable memory here) those talking on a cell phone had something like 6 out of 100 accidents while the .08 was 0 - so one could assume that talking on a cell phone is possibly the equivalent of being legally intoxicated. Furthermore the study concluded that there was no difference between hand held cell phones and hands free cell phones. So, it isn't so much physically holding the phone as concentrating on the conversation and not the driving.
That unattentive driver is the same one making a left in front of you or lane changing into you. I think it starts with the cell phone, 10 years ago we didn't have them, like we do today, there everywere, people talking loud enough so they seem important. I don't want to here there conversation. Kids driving with a ciggerette and a cell phone. Hasn't everyone seen them. ok I feel better
Totally agree.......we didn't have these problems years ago. Today, it is a huge problem and much more prevalent as there are tons of more traffic on the roadways.
I see drivers doing dumb things on the roadways daily.....and when I am finally able to see their face, I notice they are on their cell phone.
I just don't get it.....why in the hell can someone not just pull over and talk on the phone. It really is not that hard.
I've said before, if I ever get involved in an accident.....and a cell phone was being used at the time of the accident. I'll definately be suing someones a**. Cause frankly, I am sick and tired of this crap.
I was in my work van today and passed a middle aged woman on I-79 going around 65 or so who was drifting around in her lane. She had her mirror canted over and she's putting on makeup LOOKING AT THE MIRROR... not straight ahead out the front window.
I would have honked at her and given her the "eyes forward" sign but I was too busy reading the HD Forums with my laptop sitting on the cargo box next to the drivers seat. (just kidding). Seriously, does it seem to you that there are way more "inattentive drivers" lately? Sure does to me.

Believe it or not I saw the exact same thing. Guy was in a convertible too so he wasn't trying to hide it.
I say the reason people multitask so much is because they feel so safe in thier cars these days , what with seat belts, 6 air bags, antilock brakes, crush zones, stronger passenger compartments..on and on...auto makers stress how safe their car and trucks are and people feel invulnerable...it really doesn't matter what laws are passed because people are gonna break them...how many obey the speed limit?...if you really want to discourage cell phone use in the car then make the roofs out of a material that blocks the transmission...of course they can't do that because it would violate someones right to make an emergency call or whatever and they would just do something else instead ( makeup eating ,reading)... so what we riders have to do is try toprotect ourselves as much as possible by using our heads and skills and equipment...no one else is gonna look out for ya andwhen that law breaking cager hits you, you could sue them but its already too late
