Herr.....I always have trouble with the paper blowing out of my hand while I'm reaching for my coffee.....what do you do?
That is not an issue for me. I just watch streaming Fox News on my computer. Strap my laptop to my handle bars and I'm good to go. Papers sound very dangerous to me, and IMHO, very irrisponsible of you.

That unattentive driver is the same one making a left in front of you or lane changing into you. I think it starts with the cell phone, 10 years ago we didn't have them, like we do today, there everywere, people talking loud enough so they seem important. I don't want to here there conversation. Kids driving with a ciggerette and a cell phone. Hasn't everyone seen them. ok I feel better
The point is we DID have the same problems ten years ago that we do today. 1973 was my first motorcycle/auto accident and the guy claimed he didn't see me. 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984. Those are the years I had accidents because drivers of automobiles smacked me or pulled out in front of me and every single one claimed to the officer they didn't see me......gee that's funny, I distinctly remember having direct eye-to-eye contact with each one of them, of course I usually couldn't argue the point since I was in the back of an ambulance being rushed to the hospital.

Distracted drivers and obnoxious, self-important drivers are the problem, not the cell phone, never has been never will be.

Just a little background:
When I moved to Georgia in 1990 I went to the DMV to get my driver's license switched over from my other state of residence. While I was there, in line with all the kids and their moms getting their first driver's license, I noticed the kids doing all the maneuvers around the cones in the parking lot with the DMV officer...no big deal, then I found out they were issued their licence based on them passing the parking lot course!!!! I, to this day, can not believe they get away with this. When I got my Class A, now called a CDL, I had to drive a tractor-trailer through industrial areas, parallel park, back to a dock, drive down the interstate and negociate right and left turns on city streets...in other words the officer issuing my licence knew I could operate the vehicle, in traffic, safely.
I've been talking on cell phones since the mid-eighties and CB radios before them since the mid-seventies with no accidents charged to me....it is not that hard to drive and talk at the same time....it is that hard to drive and talk when you don't know how to drive.

I am sure am glad someone else around here as a little common since. I said the same thing a few days ago in another thread and dont think poeple understood what I was trying to get at. If you can not handle having a conversation and driving at the same time, then you dont need to be driving at all...

Cell phones can be distracting.... but I have seen worse.

A few monts ago our department got a 911 call in reference to a reckless driver. One of our guys got the vehicle stopped and quickly discovered why he was driving so poorly.

He had the drop down screens in the sunvisors and rear headrests.... with **** playing. A minute or so later, some lady stopped behind them and approached the officer explaining that that her 8yo son pointed out the "dirty movie" as they were past by the driver. The lady wanted something done about it. Our officer had no choice but to arrest the man for making pornographic material available to a minor.

......Moral...... Don't watch your **** and drive at the same time.

Granted....cell phones are not the only problem.

Traffic has probably at least doubled since the mid 70's. Each family now has at least three cars in their garage, where the average family from the 70's only had one car.

Traffic is only gonna increase and so will the accidents.....

The operater of the motor vehicle needs to care.......

True dat, Sniper...People carry on conversations all the time in cars, why is it different with cell phones? But, it is...I've noticed myself getting caught up in a cell conversation and not remembering the last several miles of roadway. I have since made a conscious effort to stay 'connected' to the task of driving as I would were the person I am talking to next to me. Inattentive drivers is the basic issue and pathetic drivers ed/licensing is the enabler.

Don't need more laws... D.C. has a Cell ban unless it's hands free, it's supposed to be for anything you do with your hands that affects your ability to drive..... that didn't stop the azzhole that pulled out in front of me with his coffee in one hand and Egg oMuffin stuffing into his face with the other... I would not have had to lock up the rear wheel if he'd been able to SHIFT... argh... They aren't inattentive drivers... They are STUPID drivers... 4th time I've seen it this year at least... steering with the knees and having breakfast...

On the other side of cell phone use, the other day I saw a guy on a Harley trying to use his cell phone. Not that that's inherently odd I guess, but he was in fairly heavy traffic, trying to find, then dial a phone number or numbers, shift gears, and talk. I was trying to figure out how you can hear or talk clearly with all the road and wind noise andthe pipes (they weren't stock). It was kinda funny watching him with the cell pressed up to his ear using his shoulder ashe tried to use the clutch, the throttle, and the brake. The ultimate multi-tasker I suppose.

Thank You for your very candid opinion..........I never thought about it but I have to agree..........as we speak my scoot is over at the local electronics store having a flip up DVD player with satelite feed installed, I can't wait to try it out.
