Man I took off early this am for a 36 mile ride to meetings today in DFW area. After I got up on the Interstate I thought the south wind was going to blow me off the road. I was actually not enjoying the ride. It was rough!! Then this afternoon the wind whipped around to the north and was even worse, man what a ride today. I did see 4 other riders and they all waved but I think we were just saying silently " I know, I know"
I've taken to checking the accuweather.com forcasts before taking off. They have an hour to hour forcast as well as wind speed. I'll pass if its to windy.
Yeah I was running late and didn't catch the forecast. When I left it was warm and muggy and I didn't even grab a jacket. Then that Norther came through. Luckily I was able to stop by the base and pick up a stashed jacket for the ride home just about dark.
I agree man the wind was crazy. It was catching me to the side on my way to work and dam near pushed me in the left lane a few times. Was no fun so I jumped off the interslab and wound up a few minutes late. I am a new rider and that was no fun at all. Any advice for a newb on how the best way is to handle the wind. I really felt like the bike was going to be blown right out from under me. Would be cruising along then be pushed into a lean and felt that if I lean more to stay going on my path the bike would just slide out. SCARY!! But I did make it to work. Now for the windy 31 degree ride home...
Yeah I know how you felt. I was about at my intolerable limit. I actually would have turned around if I wasn't pressed for time. I have felt like that on my sporty but on this SG it seemed worse, could be because of the more solid wheels and the fairing. I am interested if anyone has said when the wind is gusting like it was in north Texas today have said enuff is enuff. Also does anyone know of an incident where the wind actually caused an accident? After awhile I thought ok I can handle this but then a gust would cause me to pucker up a little. I have ridden a mototcycle of some kind my whole life by the way.
I went to work this afternoon and the gusts were up to 40 mph . Fortunatly I wasgoing south on 35 out of Keller. When I turned West on 820 to go to White Settelment it whacked me pretty good. A 30 mph direct crosswind was definatly a challange.I just dropped it down from 70 mph and stayed at 60 ish and it wasnt too bad.I too didnt seen many riders out today, infact Im fixin to go home and the temp was 75 when i came in ...now its49 but the wind has calmed down to 10 mph.
