Hmmm... well this is interesting. Mine is a model EXT-002 with the grey liner, but I bought it secondhand... I wonder if I am covered here. Guess a cal lto ACC will be in order tomorrow.

Cheers!

I'm betting they take care of it.

By the way guys,

I like the new way they did my helmet anyways. The strap pulls the front of it down now so wind will not knock it back like is usest to and the new white liner makes it so I do not HAVE to wear a doo rag. With the old liner it was very uncomfortble for me to drive with out a doo rag but now I dont need one. Fits and feels better.

I'm sure the ACC devotees will take issue with what I'm about to say, but nonetheless........

Prior to this recall, I had my doubts as to the legitimacy of the ACC helmet I had ordered. To be frank, I found the craftsmanship to be substandard and the attention to detail (Q&A) to seem invariably non-existent. Sure, the helmet 'looked' cool. And yeah, it was definitely lightweight. But in terms of it being a true DOT helmet as touted by the company, I had always questioned such a stance.

I spoke with the ACC representative about the recall and my helmet therein. I'm not quite sure how to convey this other than to say that I felt their attitude toward the whole deal (non-compliance with DOT) was not even remotely as serious as I felt it should have been. No apologies offered. A 'no big deal' type of approach. They said to just send it back to them and that they'd put in a new liner; and that it'd take all of just a few quick minutes. A few quick minutes?

Needless to say, my confidence in both this company and their product couldn't be lower. What's to say this 'quick fix' is going to place them back in compliance or not? I don't know? I am awaiting a call from the owner of the company (of which, I was told I'd get a call within the hour or so) to discuss what options are available to those of us (maybe its just me) who may not be thrilled with continuing forward with them as a company as a result of this situation.

Yes, mistakes happen. I realize this. But at the same time, I just felt rather uncomfortable in how said recall was handled. At least this was my experience.

How could they sell the helmets as DOT certified, then find out later they weren't?

No offense TxHarleyGuy2007, but you didn't have to keep your ACC helmet if you were not satisfied with the product. They do offer refunds.

As for the recall, I'll call them soon. Fortunately I'm right down the road from them in Orlando. I'm more than satisfied with my helmet and from reading the report it only failed the penetration portion of the test. Odds are that not many of us need to worry about that, we are mostly concerned with crush protection.

If you hold one recall against a company, even if it is safety related, how the heck do you travel or even leave your house? Every auto, plane, train, bus manufacturer has at one point had safety recalls. Every single industry has had recalls of some kind, at some time. Some of them glaring safety violations. ACC has produced a quality product that is pushing the boundaries of the industry. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

Just saying...

exactly.... If you didn't like it send it back...the ACC helmet is only ment to conformto DOT standards and provide a small light comfortable helmet that satisfies the helmet laws in those states that require one...they are not advertised to give the kind of protection a full face or a 3/4 helmet or any other type would...conforming to DOT standards doesn't guarantee anything as far as effectiveness

No offense taken. And had you taken the time to have read former posts surrounding this very subject, you would have taken from them that at the time of delivery, I wasn't altogether unsatisified with said product. That is, until I had something else by which to compare it to. It was at that point that I began to feel that said ACC helmet wasn't even remotely up to the standards of craftsmanship as other DOT helmets out there of relatively similar size and weight.

Just saying...

NOTE:

I have since spoken with the owner of the company. He explained to me what transpired and why it transpired. A definite breakdown with regard to internal checks and balances as it relates to quality control and monitoring. He seemed sincere in his efforts to 'want to make things right'. And to that end, I'll give such the benefit of the doubt.

I've called ACC this morning.

If your helmet was manufactured between the dates of: Oct 2006 through July 07.

Check tag in side helmet.

You will need to phone ACC, let them know the tag inside has a manufacture date between those dates.

They will send a box with prepaid mailer for you to return the helmet and you will have a new one sent back to you in exchange.

Sorry to say...... I'm not dissatisfied with my helmet even in light of the recall.
I like the thing, and don't feel like it’s a failed product.

I've always had a great experience with ACC when ever or how ever I've dealt with them.

I will continue tobelieve that they will make good on the recall and exchange until proven otherwise.

I wish that I could say the same about our State and Federal Tax system.
