That may be true in the case of cheap bulb replacements, but not so in the heavy duty, wide viewing angle, industrial LEDs that are used in the construction of commercial tail lights such as those you see appearing on big rigs. Go to LED Lights on Web Bike World to check the reviews out.

Hey Ed...

Does the HD kit make the turns act as running lights also or just illuminate when the brakes are applied (apart from maintaining their job as turn signals)?

Thanks,
Brian
Brian,

No running lights, just turn/brakes...

Terry, I have to admit the LEDs are cool!

Thanks for all the input guys. I am definitely going with the LED's as opposed to just getting the stock setup working as a run / turn / brake. Now I just need to make up my mind on which way I'll go in regards to the LED's.

On a different note....

Why are blue dot tail lights illegal?

Brian,

Blue dots are illegal because "Blue" is for Law Enforcement only. The way the law reads (at least in Illinois) is that you can't display any blue lights on your vehicle. So the little blue dot falls in that catagory. I've had one for years but the one on my LED Tailight is lit. I'm a LEO but I've never been pulled over in any state. The only time you will have a problem is at Daytona when they are looking for a reason to pull you over (probable cause). You know, like when we pull you over for no license plate light so we can check you for DUI or a Meth Lab or something like that.

I'm going with the full Kuryakyn Panacea setup on my Night Train. I won't see it until I get my baby out of storage in the spring, though...

Cheers!

Terry:

Looking at the Kuryakyn site ... the Taillight and each individual turn light retail for about $160? Is that correct? (except when you get 20% off) .... So the retail cost would be $800 plus the equalizer thang so your key bob light goes out? Just wondering if I'm looking at the right stuff ...

thanks (I think) ...

I have the complete Kuryakyn Panacea Deluxe Laydown Tailight (with blue dot) and red rear and smoked front turn signals. I really like them. They were very easy to install and the visibility from the rear is unbelieveable. I have the turn signals in the tailight and like that too. I ordered mine from M&M Cycles during our group buy here on the forum. Saved around 20%.

No,

The Tailight is $160 and each set of turnsignals is (whatever they quote) around $160.00

So you will need one tailight at !60 and 2 sets of turnsignals at approx. 160 per set.

M&M Cycle got mine for me and they will know what you need. Just tell them you want the complete Panacea set. You can get the laydown tailight (which is really cool) with or without blue dot.

The signal lights come in pairs. So you need the taillight ($160.00) and 2 sets of signal lights ($110.00 each). About 380 bucks retail. Not cheap for sure, but for me it's worth it to be more visible, and they look cool to boot!

Cheers!

For me:
9500-27 Bullet Turn Signal LED /Retroz/Pair Amber (2 sets) = $179.90
BT801 Smart Equalizer = $56.95
TLHS5001 Heavy Cycles LED Taillight = $214.00
02010 Unviversal Light Bar 6 in Black/Red Lens = $35.95
6104-00 Brake Light Module = $34.95

Total $521.75 less $52.18 discount = $469.57
