I have section on my pipes that is turning color. Kinda a golden brown color. It is right under my timing cover. Is this blueing? I don't recall seeing this on any of my other bikes. (But then I've never changed the pipes on those bikes)
If it is blueing, what is the best way to restore it to normal chrome?
Steve-
I sounds like blueing to me. There is a great fix for this. Kuryakyn makes a shield that slips in under your current 2-piece heat shield to cover that gap and its chrome.
Other than that I don't know what you could do to the pipe itself.
They claim hand polishing will work but I used a buffer and the stuff did work great. nice shinny chrome that stayed chrome until the dyno tune which turned it back to a much lighter shade of gold, so I will have to polish it up again.
I was just outside during lunch and I took another look at the pipes. That section is the only part of the pipes that are not covered by a heat sheild. And it seems that the blueing goes down some after it cools off.
I invested in the shield at 20% off. It cleans up the exhaust on te right side. But, Harley never should have left the gap there in the first place. Yup, it's just another way to get our $.
