so I fully recharged my battery thinking that would solve the problem of my motorcycle not running. I turn it and it still won't start.
I hear clicks so I think thay means the plugs are ok (right?). When starting it just sounds really sluggish like whooomp. whoomp. and then starts clicking. It almost sounded like it would start but then it wouldn't.
What's the diagnosis you guys? Could the cold whether be causing this? DOes it sound like I need a new battery? THanks and please respond!
Also to me sounds like weak battery, but cold weather makes it tough to push those long stroke big pistons up and down.Electronic ignition needs good voltage to work.Good Luck
Let me start this out with this. If it can be screwed up I have done it at least once and if the stupid bug got on my back I did it a few times. So this is my life experience with your problem.
I think its the battery. Do you use a battery tender? If you dont and it has been cold weather it most likely the battery. The computer on a Harley never stops working even when you park it. So according to the dealer Iusehe would tender the batteryif the bike is going to sit up for 3 weeks or more. I personally have had a ruff time starting myheritage in cold weatherif I dont tender it. The cold and HD computer working all the time drains andcold weakens the battery. Not good for a battery. Just starting it and letting it sit doesnt charge it as well from what I have been told as riding it for an hour. You said you charged your battery. If battery test ok then pull out your wallet.
It could be your starter. I hope not I really do. They are expensive if memory serves me correctly.
If it was plugs under normal wear and tear you would be able to start the bike but it would back fire/miss fire and just run ruff. Have you laid it down? Is the plug caked with oil? How old are they. Personally I replace mine with the cheapest plug HD sells every 5K. That is excessive I know but thats just what I like to do. Moreexpensive plugs unless you havedone a lot of engine work to make it fast and need hot plugs are no better than the cheapies from my experience.
If the battery is tested and is good. Not a good thing for you. Batterys normally from my experience drag a little during cold weather. If not tenders they drag a lot some times if work at all if they have some age on them.
The clicking is the battery solenoid trying to engage without enough juice.
Your batter is either dead, in need of a charge, or the leads are loose/corroded.
Just curious as to how cold it is where you`re trying to start your bike.If dino oil if it`s real cold it won`t turn over real well. And sometimes even the coil wont fire very well either if it`s too cold.My $.02 Toby

+1,,, first things to check as noted above. Dirty, loose leads won't allow it to charge either if you are charging it on the bike.
Thanx all for the replies. upon further inspection it seems like the battery is just dead (after i just fully recharged it). looks like I need to go buy another one lol.
ty all for replies!
