Now most of us have purchased things on ebay but what I want to know is what is the most expensive thing you purchased and would you buy a bike from ebay? I have nothing but good experiences but kind of gun shy about large purchases.

I've never been happy with anything I bought from EBay. Mostly little stuff like an Indian clock, Harley lighters, etc. All pretty much junk. Didn't necessarily feel ripped off or anthing, as I didn't pay much, but I wouldn't buy anything major like a bike unless it were close enough to go look at and verify papers on first.

One of my friends bought his Road Glide on ebay. He did a lot of homework on the guy he was buying it from, had the guy send extra pictures, and talked to him on the phone before placing a bid. For him it was a great way to get a bike he wanted, with a bunch of extras, and got it for a good deal.

I bought my 03 FB (now my wifes) and 05 SEEG2 both from the sellers after the auction's ended. The FB was bought from pictures and the money sent before receiving the bike. The SEEG2 was seen by me before money changed hands. Both experiences were positive. The most expensive thing I bought thru Ebay was a $950 HDTV.. The main thing is to ask many questions and talk to the seller by phone on big items.

I personally would not buy a bike off ebay unless it was local and could look at it in person. Another option would be to contact an appraiser (your choosing, not the sellers) in the area and have them inspect the bike to insure it's condition and value before you bid/buy. Even if you pay $150 for an appraisal (I have no idea what they really charge), it would be worth it to know you're not getting ripped off.

One of my coworkers bought a car out of state, and in addition to the pictures he got before making the deal, he paid to have it appraised by an independant third party. It was money well spent for him, and the car worked out to be as nice as claimed, but you have to do your homework to avoid getting ripped.

I bought my 2002 FXDWG3 on ebay late last year and I am very satisfied with the deal. The ebay item was placed on ebay by a dealer. Before I purchased I called the information number given in the ebay ad and I was nervous about dealing with some unknown. When I called to ask about the bike they did not indicate that it was a dealership, I must have called a back line. Anyway, I asked a couple of questions and the person I was speaking to put me on hold and that is when I discovered that it was a HD Dealership. While on hold I heard a rolling recording about sales and service blah-blah-blah. I immediately felt relieved.

I have purchased a bunch of stuff on ebay (50-60 items from $1 to $16,250) and had a ball doing it. I have also sold about the same amount from $1 to $1,200. Most of my purchases have been from professional ebayers’, since they do a high volume. I have had the person die on the other end before my order was filled and the wife took care of the refund (about 3 weeks). I have had a dead beat that never sent his money on a cheap item. Paypal is one of the best ways to pay for something, and in some cases insures the transaction for up to $1,000. When I purchased my bike the transaction covered under the Vehicle Purchase Protection Ensures that you receive the vehicle you paid for, with coverage up to $20,000 against fraud or material misrepresentation.

If the bike was a real pile of ****, I could have disputed it and sent it back. One word of warning, make sure you’re not dealing with a flake. Research the seller and check out what buyers and sellers are saying about them.

When I bought the bike, the dealer offered a factory warranty and I choose the 4 year plan for $1,500 extra, that protected me from the internal unknowns since the dealer didn't know the person who first owned the bike.

I also have bought alot of things from ebay, some good some bad. I would never by a bike or atv off of ebay. I use to drag race atv's and I was a member of a few forums. Long story short they are people that get on the forums and get into the gallery's and get a bunch of pictures of atv's, and and try to sale that atv. I think if you pay with pay pal it would be alot better, because you can get your money back. I have done this a few times.

The most expensive item I purchased on eBay was a $1,500 camera. Most of my experiences (99%) in buying and selling have been good. Unfortunately, my very first experience was NOT. I mailed a check for $200 and never received my item and never made contact with the seller. I was robbed. [sm=icon_flaming.gif]

It took me a year to regain my courage before I bought anything again. Most of my transactions have been as a seller and everything worked out just fine. I've sold over 350 items with 100% positive feedback. The most expensive item I ever sold was an $1,800 camera that I paid $1,500 for on eBay.[sm=icon_rock.gif]

I've bought quite a few things from ebay and the most expensive was probably a $300 windshield. All of my experiences have been good. The nice thing is that if you don't like something you usually can sell it again with a minimal loss if any. I didn't like the windshield (just the looks, it was in perfect shape) and sold it again for the same I paid. Can't beat that. I'm not sure if I would buy a bike or car from ebay unless it was fairly local and I could check it out in person.

I have had a lot of good luck on Ebay - The most expensive thing I bought was a $4500.00 Electronic Keyboard - It was close to new and the guy turned out to be excellent to deal with - I got an amazing price and a lot of extras but have to admit using PayPal for over $2500.00 bucks is a scary thing - I recently took another risk and bought expensive concert tickets that my wife was dying for and that deal also turned out great - Would I buy a Harley I couldn't see???? That is a damm good question - In reality you take the same risks from buying privately or used from a dealer if there is no warranty but somehow it sure does seem like a lot more risk - A year ago I would have said no way would I buy a bike from ebay but now I think I just might - Risk is risk I guess
