I have the bike as my MAIN means of transport, but I still have my car, which I use when I need to go grocery shopping, and I know I won't be able to fit it all on my bike.
Personally I love it, its way more fun than being in the car all the time, and its not like it ever gets really that cold down here in S. LA. Getting caught in the rain sucks, but I have good rain gear.
Oh and the lack of pain filling up at the pump rocks, especially all the envious glares from SUV drivers...

It would be real dangerous to only have a scoot here on LI you are guarenteed a fender bender once in a while I dont care how good a driver you are and they salt and sand the **** out of the roads in the winter.

My ride is my transport. My wife has a van, but lately it seems that I drive that when we are going to get somethings that will not fit on the Ultra.

The up side? I'm having a ball!

The down side? I haven't discovered it yet. But then in Phoenix it rarely gets real cold and it doesn't rain much.

I went most of one year without a car when I was younger. Two wheels in Michigan in winter just didn't cut it. There were times I had to borrow a car or catch a ride. The bad part was my insurance. Since I had only my bike insured, my insurance company put me in a high risk catagory when I put a car back on my policy, rate was outrageous. When I griped about it, they said that because I did not insure a car for the extended period it placed me in high risk. It was State Farm, by the way. I promptly changed companies.

At that time I rode a Honda 125 on/off road bike. I even put sheet metal screws in the tires to grip on slippery surfaces. My job in Ann Arbor was only a couple miles from home, and no major streets or highways, so it was not that big of a deal, I just had to bundle up well. One time I made it all the way to work without dumping it, turned to enter the parking lot at work, hit a patch of ice with a puddle, and proceded to lay it down right in the puddle. I landed on my a$$, soaked to the bone. I had no other clothes to wear, and sat on a heater for a while to warm up and dry off some. I guess I was lucky that was my worst experience and I was not hurt. I'm a little smarter and much more careful now than I was then.

My Sporty is my only means of transport. Ya learn to take the good with the bad pretty quick 'cause you dont have a choice. When yer freezin cold, soakin' wet and ya boots are full of water you know it's not gonna get much worse. At the moment it's 85 degrees outside, 10.30 pm and I dont have to work tomorrow. Cold, wet, shitty weather is the last thing i'm thinkin' about when I go out for a ride tonight. Let's face it though what's your local climate like and how harsh are your winters.

I have a Full size Bronco, but only when there is snow or ice. If the roads are clear I'm riding, I just dress accordingly.
