Drunk or Buzzed. Is there a Difference?
xxxflhrci,
.08%is now the limit for all states, as far as I know. (.08 to .099 is under the influence, and .10 and up isDWI)
You can always tell the ones that are stoned on weed. They're driving safely at 10 mph and throwing pizza crusts out the window.
Sounds like the old days.
For now, I can drunk when I drive... drink when Im...drive when... Hell, wish I had a bar next door. I could just start my bike and rev it up.
Everyone, please stay the hell away from me when your buzzedOR drunk.

The bike was left parked on more than one occasion because I was too drunk to ride. How I stayed alive during those years is a miracle and thank God I did not hurt anyone but myself.
But if I had killed someone I should have been punished. I had no excuse to drive while drinking. Get a ride, call a cab or sleep in your cage or next to your bike. Just my .02 cents. Been there done that. =) Lowryder
Even when "buzzed' your judgement is impaired and you can cause an accident.
It isn't so much "Impairment", as your "Perception and Reaction" times begin to be longer, as alcohol slows the brain's ability to function properly and readily.
What you once perceived and reacted to at 1.6-1.7 seconds, (standard time used for daytime, sober people by the industry) starts to take 2......2.5.....and 3 seconds.
Traveling at 55 mph, (80 ft per second) x 1.6 seconds to perceive and react = 128 feetyou've traveled just in the time you saw something and FIRST started to react to it. This does not include your stopping time, friction coeficient or any other factor.
Now add some booze, and stretch thatperception/reaction time out to 2.5 seconds, and 55 mph. You're now looking at200 feet traveled, because you perceived and reacted slighyl slower.
If this were a car that pulled out in front of you, 175 feet away, you lose...
This perception and reaction time is the same for braking or swerving. It's the time you see the problem and START to do something to avoid it.
This is where people get themselves in trouble.

The Feds did one of their notrious "If you don't accept it, you get no Federal road repair money" thing, like they did with speed limits.......
I've been formally tested and I function fine at the sober limits until my BAC hits .12. We did this many, many years ago when I went through the police academy, fun two days in class. Get drunk and drive patrol cars through an obstacle course. Closed course naturally. I also might add that I don't even start to feel the alcohol until my BAC reaches .12 even today.
Someone on a bike should follow the same rules and have no alcohol in thier system. If they do, they should not be riding.
I would not call them worthless human beings but if they do kill someone, butsomeone somewhere will. And then its too late.
Like Whaap said...but for the grace of God go I...
Okay, here it is. We all see and hear of the guy who gets drunk and kills someone. We all react with disgust and say the guy should be executed or such. My question is. Are we any different after one or two drinks than anyone else stone drunk? Have we just been lucky enough to not have caused such a catostrophy? We all talk about those worthless people who have received a DUI until we get one, then it's the cops fault. Can we call these killers, worthless human beings and leave ourselves out of the mix just cause we haven't been there yet?

I know there is a legal and social difference between the two, but my question I suppose is why and how can we be so quick to jump on the guy who is said to have been drunk and killed someone, bike or cage? Is it simply because we "feel we're not drunk" after being buzzed, or do we dump on others and say well they were drunks and we're just social drinkers, or "I can handle my booze". I not judging here, just want to know why it is we condemn others and we do the same thing.
Any alcohol impairs your judgement. Those who try to discerne a difference between drunk and buzzed are just trying to defend their own irresponsible behavior. I guess that's how you can tell us posers from the real bikers. The idea of riding from bar to bar to have a few beers is irresposible at best, criminal at worst. But there sure are a lot of riders who live for that.

Lowrider, congrats on the 20 years sober. I "know" what you mean. All in all, riding a motorcycle is dangerous enough as it is, without alcohol in your system. There is no way in h*** that I would ever get on my bike after drinking even one drink.
