This will never die, bikes,bikes,bikes- Ok help me out, how about cars with glasspacs, or those little sewing machine engines cars with exhaust the size of a howlitzer.mmmmmmm what about the stereos cranking out 150dbs in the neighborhoods, subwoofers in cars that make by dvd's skip.
The noise is all around. Get off the biker thing, for over 50 years we have been a target, take the blinders off. I like my pipes, there not stock but there only loud when I get on it- not when cruising thru a neighborhood. Self control- LOL
Do loud pipes save lives??? mmmmmmmm give me a break if the cage can hear me, then they know I'm there. It just one more thing that helps me be seen(heard), like headlights on, my wifes fringe when she rides her bike. The more attention on the road we get the safer we are.
Each to there own, but don't tell me what will make my life better. Just my .02 worth on the endless pipe threads I've seen on here, even before I registered
See my Loud Pipes Ruins Lives thread. It's a pretty HOT topic. This is an issue that a lot of people wish would just go away, but I don't see it changing. In fact, I think just the opposite, it will become more of an issue and a hotter topic as time goes on.
We can complain about cars and everything else that is creating noise pollution, but it doesn't matter. The EPA, other groups and municipalities have decide to go after bikes.....we're not going to change that. In time I really think we will lose and the pipes will become quieter. The explosion of sport bike and cruiser sales over the last 10 years has made it so that every yahoo was sitting under an overpass in traffic cranking his throttle, so he could sound cool. Well it caught up with us, people started to complain. In my town it wasn't the residential areas that complained, it was the business district and they carry a lot of weight. The Province tried to pass a law here banning loud pipes, a small group of riders (with some backing) took them to court and won. The Court said that as long as the pipes were legal (baffles) then they would be allowed. So then the municipalities just started to pass their own bylaws, which became too expensive for MC groups to fight, so they gave up. We're lucky so far in Canada, that the police tend to leave us alone, when it comes to apes, pipes and skidlids, but the laws are still stacking up against us and sooner or later, they will start to crack down. You folks in the U.S. are fighting theexact same fight...they are going after you one city at a time.
I like my pipes a little loud, and yes after 31 yrs of ridng & selling bikes, I do believe that they help me get noticed. But I also use common sense, I'm a little old to be sitting in traffic trying to shake the windows of the car behind me. When I come home at night, I roll off the throttle, so I don't wake the kids in the neighborhood. Do I think my aftermarket pipes are going the way of the Dodo bird........yep.
The laws being different state by state even community by community there's no telling how it will affect riders in the long run. I guess if big Government presses the EPA laws stock pipes will be a moot point or you don't ride. Riders are voters too when things get tough maybe then something will get changed. I'm gonna get more information from our local ABATE to find out my rights, heck might even join.

I agree with Sam & tda69,it's gonna get worse soon and again Kalifornia will ,at least try to, take the lead like it or not. The Feds already have plenty of emmisions, noise and exhaust laws on the books and yes they cover the little annoying rice burners that buzz like hell. They too were targeted by various cities as a noise problem and many a ticket was issued...the lower courts held that a local LEO must be "trained" in in enforcment of Fed exhaust/emmision statutes and ,beleive me, it's happenning. As far as the "boom Boxes" and thunder thumping cars ,well take a look at Cal Vehicle code 27007,it's being widley used with great sucess. Courts here have also ruled that a LEO doesn'tneed a d'meter to issue a cite for noise.Blame the judge not the cop!We would all like to think (and try to sell the idea)that good common sence, self controland respect for each other would be enough to "police" the problem and it would be a non issue. Fact is to many people have to little of the above. Our freedoms must be protected and that includes the right to ride and enjoy lifes pleasures.Does it include the ability to make noise that adversly effects others? There is a lot said about the fiscal impact of a bike run or gathering of bikers for an event in a community.(and please understand I believe the charity runs are gaining us some great P R that we truley need) It's the"we'll take our money elsewhere" kinda thing. That position is getting harder and harder to hold. Vegas will still make a ton of money without us,Laughlin will continue to thrive etc, etc. If you look at themoney story from the other side of the issue there are some good arguments that more of the "family oriented" types will come out and spend the big bucks if "those loud and scarey bikers" weren't there and they are eaiser to accommodate too. THe establishment is not just after the motorcyclist it's going after many enthusiust of various freedoms. I wanna ride a nice sounding bike for years to come but it's not looking to promissing right now because of a small but defiant few. Ok enough said from one humble opinion. There's a little "Devels advocate" in all of us I hope.Elections are comming ,make your choices wisley it's about our last line of defense.
I dont care if every dam other bike in the world but mine has pipes that made them sound like the engine wasn't running at all while they are at 6 grand......I am going to have loud pipes if that's what I want.....its just that simple. If it bothers you....too bad, so sad.....if it bothers other people....so what, I dont care...there are PLENTY of things out there that bother me. If it bothers the cops....so write me a ticket, and stop waisting my friggin time.
