Default CARB vs. DynoJet

The California Air Resources Board (CARB) announced recently that it concluded an investigation against Dynojet Research, Inc. At issue was the company's "Power Commander" that can be used to alter the air-fuel mixture and engine timing of on- and off-road motorcycles. CARB said that the installation of these devices would adversely affect the emissions control systems of vehicles that were certified by the original equipment manufacturers to comply with the agency's emissions standards. Dynojet has now certified a California version of the "Power Commander" and has agreed to pay $1,000,000 in penalties to the California Air Pollution Control Fund.

Probably a whole lot of nothing. Isn't the whole point of a PC3 to richen up the a/f ratio and adjust the timing? That would lead to higher emmisions... so I don;t see how they can make a "califonia-compliant" version that can actually do anything.

Cheers!

The Power Commander EX is CARB approved and has a few limitations.

It does not have the buttons on the front of the face. Looks like it has a limit of 50% adjustment. 2006 and 2007 versions utilize the O2 sensors rather than the bypass connectors. Those that may have to pass some kind of inspections may very well go for the EX version if they are worried about it. Also it would be street legal so Shops would be able to sell it with out being in trouble with the CARB.

ORGINALYNOJET WEBSITE

About the New Power Commander III EXWe are pleased to announce the latest edition to the Power Commander family, the Power Commander III EX.

The PCIII EX offers virtually the same tuning functionality as our “race only” Power Commander line, while at the same time complying with the California ARB regulations.

On 2007 Harley-Davidson (and the 2006 Dyna) the PCIII EX interfaces with the bikes’ stock 02 sensors to provide optimal fuel economy. Additionally, it allows fuel mapping capability (both fuel and timing) at higher RPM and throttle opening for maximum horsepower and torque.
Map CompatabilityThe PCII EX is compatible with our patented Tuning Link Software. Custom maps can be developed in much the same way as the “race only” version. Maps made for the “race only” PCIII can be loaded into the PCIII EX and are automatically converted to the proper format.
Harley Davidson Specific FeaturesHarley-Davidson motorcycles are unique and so is the Power Commander for them. Not only does the PCIII EX for HD applications offer full fuel adjustability (+/-50%, it also incorporates a built-in ignition module. Ignition timing changes of up to +4 /- 10 degrees from stock can be made.

Additionally, the unit includes our Rev X-tend features that allow the user to increase the stock rev limiter to 6, 200 rpm without having to take the bike to a dealer for an expensive ECU update.

Like the rest of the Power Commander line, the PCIII EX for Harley-Davidson motorcycles can map each cylinder for maximum performance regardless of the combination of parts being used.
