Discovered HD when I was 2 years old. My dad had a '74 Superglide, which he sold in the 80s. I wanted a motorcycle and rode one when I was around 15, but I didn't actually want a Harley until last year.

About 14-15.
And was 36 y.o. when I finally bought my first bike ever, my Dyna Superglide Custom.
Why so much delay?
I'm not ashamed to say that the only thought of riding a bike, no matter how much I liked it, scared me shitless.
Then, one day, it was while watching a tribute to Indian Larry, it simply popped up in my mind: "OhforGodssake! Grow out of it!".
May be ole Larry's soul whispered something in my ear, may be I only grew up, or had already grown out of it and just needed a nudge to go over the line, and the show provided just that (so, in a certain sense, if with "soul" we mean the imprint a man leaves in this world, and what he lived by, yes, Larry's soul whispered something in my ear ).

summer of 1948, was 8 years old..got my first ride on a neighbors Harley, all I remember is that it was black and he gave me a ride to the mailbox..we lived on a farm in northern ILL. right there I was hooked, had to wait until I was 18 in 1958 to get my first Harley..

I got divorced in 04 and immediately went out and bought a Honda shadow. A year and a half later I had to have a Harley so I bought my first one in 06. Now I'm on my second Harley and there is no turning back now.

I'll never know how old that HD was. Owned by an indy shop friend in the 50's. Like in Johnny Cash's song, "A Boy Named Sue" it was 'big and bent and gray and old'.

It seemed to have more sheet metal, chrome and lights than a Packard and could rattle just sittin' still in the wind. What a great old rat rod before its time!
