Frame mount highway pegs
Where does one find them? I know i've seen some that clamp on the downtube of the frame so that you don't have a long bar all the way across. I like the idea of them but haven't found them. Maybe I'm just using the wrong search term.

I don't understand what you are exactly looking for. I have hghway pegs mounted where usually forward controls go, but you already have forward controls, so why highway pegs?
You may find them in the multifit section of the accessory catalog, anyway. There are both the fixed and adjustable sets. I went for fixed.
Also, if you have an engine guard, there are pegs that can be mounted there, both inside the guard and swing-out.

I've seen some that are basically clamps that you mount to the frame down tubes. Two clamps with threaded holes that a clevis screws into, then the peg mounted to that. No crash bar, no moustache, just the two clamps and pegs mounted however high or low on the frame you want.
As for why, with my forward controls, (more like mids), the brake pedal is not adjustable and is in such a position that I have to turn my foot on the peg. It seems like it's barely hanging on most of the time. Not to mention another riding position is great for the longer rides.

You might try HD part #50903-85T which is a chrome clamp (1 1/4") that will hold a male mounted peg. Might work with extended pegs.

RE: Frame mount highway pegs
Last night I mounted the 3 piece clamp (50903-85T) onto my downtubes, '04 FXST, and attached a set of bargin bin kuryakyn off-set pegs. So far so good! I'll take the ole Warpig out and see how they work while rollen' later today. I suspect I'll have to buy longer footpegs...
