It wasn't the cold (although it was very cold compared to where I live now) it was the wind! 100mph almost everyday! We had to have ropes tied between the buildings sometimes to pull ourselves across the street. No trees on the whole 2 X 4 mile island. You could stand in the middle, and turn around and see ocean all around you. There was some good fishing though IF you didn't get blowed off the dock! I had a very hard time complaining about being at Shemya because my uncle was there during WWII, and he lived in a tent!!! At least I was in a warm dorm room.
I would have said f**k this **** after a few days.
