Default Remote Starter Kill question

I had a qouple questions that just came up for me. When I engage the remote starter kill button I have a little red key flashing on my speedometer. Is this normal? I don't remember noticing it before. Will it run the battey down?

Then I wondered... Does any remote kill button work on any bike that has it, or are they like an alarm and use a different code for each bike? Any Harley "Coke machine" key will fit, so if any remote works that doesn't leave the bike very secure does it?

OK if i read it right yes its normal. The remote you refer to is often called the key fob and it is matched to your alarm system/kill switch. the flashing key is just to let you and others know that it is armed. It will go into a battery saver mode after a certain period of time although I don't recall how long.

So,

1, each remote is unique so only yours will work with your bike.

2, each key is unique so only yours will work in your bike.

Now we wont even start with the idea that there are only so many key codes so that in theory some one elses key could work on your bike.

Thanks pointswhat ---> I just armed the bike and I'll check it in an hour to see if it's still flashing. I'd like to be able to leave it on always when not riding.

And lock your steering! The stock alarm only flashes your lights. Any scum can hop in and coast away. Also read your owners manual on programming your alarm to disarm using the turn signal switches. Comes in handy if your alarm fob battery dies, or breaks, or you loose it. The only way to start it without the fob, or the turn signal code is to replace the ignition module....expensive.

Hmmm... I armed the key fob kill switch at 3:30. Left it for 2 hours and the key light is still blinking. Any chance someone could look it up in a manual for me and see if this is normal, please? I'd hate to run the battery down considering the dealership did it the day I bought it. I don't wanna kill a cell.

I've never seen mine stop blinking...it's not going to run down the battery either...

Not sure if you have the smart siren, but it's worth the upgrade. get the pager too...

You have the alarm module just not the siren that goes with it. If you wish to get this make sure you get the smart siren 2 you can see it HERE. Make sure you get the new siren/pager combo not just the siren it is only a $5 difference in price and then you can add the actual pager later.

Oh and according to the manual the bike will go into storage mode after 30, 60 or 90 days depending on how you have it set. So basically don't worry about it as the draw is so minimal unless your not going to be riding it for over 30 days.
