I rarely even take the key out of the ignition....Never lock the forks and don't watch it while I'm inside doing whatever.
Haven't ever had a bike stolen.
With years of experience on the Europeam continent I have some remarks:
- a when a gang of crooks want to steal your bike even an army base is not a safe place
- b when a gang of crooks want to steal your bike even the safe of a bank is not safe enough.
-c when it comes to 'occasional thiefs' it is sufficient to make the theft 'time consuming'
For this 'time consuming' security it is sufficient to use your normal locks of the bike, added with a rear wheel chain lock and a brake disc lock at the front whee.
When available the rear wheel chain lock can he used around a solid pole, streertlight pole or big tree.
This make the activities of the occasional thiefs 'time consuming' and if there is one thing thiefs hate, it will be 'long times' required to steal what the like to steal
We never stray too far away from the bikes and most of the time we know so many people we all look out for each others rides. A lot of my friends are packing as am I.
