I had finally decided to buy some Widder Heated gear. I really like the setup over Gerbing.
When I went to thier web site to read up on some stuff there was a notice on the web site (http://www.widder.com ) that "All warrenties will end on Dec. 31, 2008"...to say the least I was a bit confused.
I can't find anything on the site that specifically states anything but I have heard the founder passed away over the holidays.
Widder is Ojai, California....a good american made product. I hope it's not true.
I don't have any info on Widder. I just bought the Gerbing heated jacket liner and heated gloves for my wife. Just curious what it was you didn't like about the Gerbing?
We live in NE Illinois and ride until they salt the roads so she should get a lot of use out of the heated clothing.
Widder Enterprises to Close Doors
One of the best-known producers of heated gear for motorcyclists will close itâs doors at the end of 2008. In an email to a motorcycling mailing list, Pat Widder of Widder Enterprises announced the difficult decision to close the company after 37 years:

After a 37 year run, Joyce and I made the decision his past summer. We are staying open this year to cover any warranty issues and sell the remaining inventory. It was a hard decision because of the thousands of great people we have met through the years, but the main reason is we are ready to do other things now that our sons have been raised.

I liked that I did not have to have arms if I didn't want them and they were less obtursive under a jacket or pants because they only cover where you usually get cold (outer arms, top of legs...etc). I had been doing the research when I found out there were closing.
Wasn't planning on buying the whole system in one shot but I just might. BMW has been selling them for years. Not uncommon to hear folks having the same vest for 10 + years.
