Why helemets work
Oh, I wished you would have warned us about the graphic nature of these photos. Just so you know ... what you are looking at is most definately a deceased person who died not only tragically, but violently .... emphasis on "person". ... How would you feel if this was YOUR son and people were using it as kick at the helmet law arguement. Let's show a little respect, shall we?
Prayers to the family.
What if it wasn't a truck?
What if it had been a car. With a family inside? YOUR family maybe?
Such a crash would have wiped out anybody inside the car who was on the direct path of this "failed stuntman".
Still inclined to compassion?
Not to mention the damage to the biker community in general.
"We have to do something to save these kids"...
And we all know what is the knee jerk "jerk" reaction to such accidents: preemptive lawmaking, with freedom killing laws. For our own good, obviously.Doing 125 mph, that is 55,5 m/sec (the velocity of an arrow shot by a low-power target bow) is plain DUMB.
This guy parents said the only right thing to say: if this can discourage someone to do the same and end in a worst tragedy, it's not in vain.
I've been on the "receiving" side once, I was very, VERY lucky, and nobody in my car was hurt. I didn't do anything wrong, I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. I don't want to test my luck again, and it changed my view on certain "stunts" a lot.
Every time I see one of these dorks splat against something, I think "Thanks god it wasn't me on the other side, and one less chance next time it may be me".

It may seem harsh and ruthless, but it's nonetheless true, and the world won't change to fluffy when you're recklessly going 125 mph and have a lapse in your skill just because you are young. It remains hard and sharp.

Just because you wear a full faced helmet, doesn't mean your safer then those who don't wear a helmet at all.
Don't delete this just because this doesn't support your Pro-manditory helmet law mentality.
The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders
My brother in-law wiped out on his bike this last weekend, slid on his face and hit the curb. No helmet, plenty of stiches. He is going to be ok though, no broken bones.
With or without a helmet, we are all taking our chances out there, ride safe.
