Default In put please?

I have a 2003 883 hugger, which has the 3.3 gal "peanut" tank (hence the name). Has anyone changed this out to a larger tank? Had problems doing so? Was it worth it?
I love my hugger, buthaving to stop more frequently than the "big boys" is getting a little old. I would love to be able to ride for longer stretches.

I haven't thought about changing mine. I have a 2001 883 Hugger, hence the name. Enjoy the hell out of it and just deal with the fill ups, the "big guys" don't mind chattin more often while we stop either. They always remember that I have a smaller tank and doesn't bother them. Most of those guys probably had a sportster at one time anyway.

We stop every 65 - 75 miles for gas, whether we need it or not, but we usually do.(Butt Break) If the "Big Boys" don't want to stop that often, then they don't have to ridewith us. But when we do stop, and the ppl start to look at,and talk 'bout the chopper, for some mysterious reason, most of the "Big Boys" are right there, yakking with the "LOOKY LOUS" and N JOYing the stop. To us, it's the "journey" not the destination. If I am in that big of a hurry, I sure wouldn't take a hardtail pan on the trip. Besides, "back in the day", 3 gals. was the "norm", not a "peanut". my wife had a 01 883 hugger that we changed the peanut tank out to a bigger tank. no major modifications, just had to get the extra gas cap, etc. it resembled the dyna gas tanks and looked really nice. got many remarks about how it looked. eventually put a wideglide style rear fender on it and that also made a remarkable difference in appearance along with the gas tank.

not sure now if it was a harley tank or not - remember it being called a fatbob tank but that was before they became popular so i don't think it actually referred to the fat bob. i think harley makes a larger tank. easy, simple. may have to check into seat fitment on new tank. we had an aftermarket seat that still worked.

Check out the tank for the Sportster Custom. It's larger and being factory should fit with little modification.

number 1 to get it straight the 3.3 gal tank is not a peanut tank the older sportsters had a 2.2 gal tank that was the origional peanut tank the 3.3 is a standard sportster tank until the 2004 model came out with the 4 gal plus fuel tank . if you want a larger fuel tank to extend your fuel mileage jp cycles sells a fuel tank called a porkster i think it holds 4.5 gals & will give you about 200 miles to the tank .i installed one on my 2000 sportster & it worked out very well just my 10 cents worth !!!!!!!!!!

I have the 3.3gal tank on my 98 hugger and I get about 135 miles to the tank (before reserve). For trips that is plenty. By then you are ready to take a break anyways. My parents (especially my mom) on their Road King like riding with me on long rides because they have to take breaks every 2-3 hours.
