I am 26 and got our first Harley in Sept after 8 years of listening to my husband whine that he wanted one. There were two stipulations before we could get one. 1) We had to be more financially secure and over-paying all the bills and 2) He had to quit smoking. We went thru many years of not being able to pay bills since we had our son at 19 and then our daughter at 22. We never lost anything or had anything repoed, but we did mess up our credit. We have been working hard to fix that since 2004. Have been doing really good since we overpay all of the bills every month. We do have credit cards, but one for each of us with a $700 limit on one and a $300 limit on the other. They are paid off as soon as the statement comes. We don't own our house, but we are negoitiating with the landlord to buy since he lives in FL and will never move back to PA. We have a '88 Jeep, a '93 Jeep, and a '93 Toyota car that are all paid for a run great.
P.S. He quit smoking in July and on Sept 11 we bought our Harley. It seems if you want something bad enough, it can be worth it to quit. Oh, and as soon as the snow is gone, we will be picking up our '08 Ultra Classic.
I am 39 and I bought my first harley at 25, now I am on my sixth motorcycle, there was a period of time like 5 yearswhere I did not have a motorcycle I was into racingcars so that took much of my $$$$ and time....

I'm 30 and on my first harley 3rd bike. I bought an 08 Street Bob as a 30th birthday present. I own my home, have 401k set up, and am almost out of credit card debt. Been married for 2 years and have a 1 year old daughter. I think we are doing fine financially. I waited until I could afford a harley before I bought one even though it's what I always wanted.
I started riding sport bikes mainly because I could not afford a Harley in 01. Got a great job out of college, had the $ but could not afford the time to ride a harley. At 26 I went back to school to get my masters in education. I quit my old job I bought an 05 Night train and became a public school teacher. Sure the money wasn't that great to start but you can't beet the hours. 13 weeks paid vacation...10 solid weeks of great New England riding in the summer and out on the road every day by 2:30! Plus the bike scores points with the kids!
28 here. not my first bike but first harley. will have a house by march (i probably pay more for my townhouse now than most pay for a mortgage) i also have a $500 car payment and child support, i basically fell into a career that i happen to be good at, with a decent 401k. i ride solo a good portion of the time but i have a good group of friends with HDs i ride with also. i would love to find a group in my area around my age though.
