Custom leather seats
I had a Corbin on the old Heritage that was getting weathered, I decided to have it recovered rather than get a new seat. Found some tan leather that matches the tan trim on the bike, drew up a design, and brought it to my upholstery guy.....it turned out great! and for a fraction of the cost of a new Corbin. Also totally custom, not another like it on this earth. So......then I thought, this is fun....can't be that hard to learn.....got a wild hair andbought an old commercial sewing maching, a few street bob seats on EBAY (usually about $60), and some leather. Got an 07 Dyna a few months ago (blue), did a seat -all leather with black and brown stripes in the center circle. Turned out pretty good. I later found a take offolive green tank set also on EBAY....nobody bid on it, got a great price, then did another seat with green leather. Later did a black and white striped seat for a black sportster....still need to get pics for that one.
I keep them oiled with the same stuff I put on a jacket, that keeps them waterproof. When you think about it, you wouldn't wear a stamped plastic jacket or boots.....why settle for a plastic seat. I think harley should offer that as an option ....hell Pakistan can make decent jacketsfor $150 retail,I am sure they could do a buttload of seats for Harleyfor about $30each, I think it makes a much classier bike, and it wouldn't cost alot more. OK.....now I have to try and get the pictures in here, I put a bunch in the "photobucket" thinghttp://s234.photobucket.com/albums/ee162/chnichols/I think you can just click there and see all the pics.
Oh....the point is, just about every town has a decent auto upholstery shop, doing a bike seat is easy for those guys, should cost about $150, and you can have a totaly cool seat that you have designed yourself.....
wait...I think I can put pics here in the post....
