Default mini apes-will they help me??

Wondering if some 14-16 inch apes might help some of the soreness I get in my shoulder blade area? I am 6'4 and my handlebars are probably only 6 inches high and come towards me some, which kind of makes me feel crammed due to the fact I have long arms. So, that said, do you think the higher bars would solve some of the pain I'm getting and make the ride more comfortable. As it is now, after about an hour I feel pain, and no, I'm not old or that out of shape....thanks for the feedback.

That's what I was hoping to find out, I'm looking at 12 1/2 inch Streetbob bars. My SuperGlide stock bars make me reach over the tank, I know of the shoulder blade pain you speak of.

Changing the stock Heritage bars for some stock WideGlide-apes was perfect for me, more for the angle change of the grips. That may be part of your problem, the bend your wrist has to make on the original bars.

Based on what you said, I had similar problems with my stock bars. I switched to apes and the soreness went away, and the ride became more enjoyable.

I had the same problem, 5'9" tall, I put 12.5" wild one Chubby's one my road king, it made the ride much more enjoyable. It did take me a couple of weeks to get used to the bars but definitly worth it. At your height I would go with the 16" bars

Yeah sounds like I need some 14's or 16's. Even turning is a pain in the *** because of the way the grips come at me, I just feel kind of jammed when I turn....really considering getting this done, appreciate the feedback....

I am 5' 10" and the Street Bob mini apes are just below shoulder height...I can ride for 3-4 hours with no shoulder discomfort at all....

mnvikingsfan - I think you have gotten it. If the bike is going to be a li'l slow, might as well look good (wide whites) and be comfortable (mini apes). "Old" is a relative term and yes, round is a shape.
To the "real" issue, at 6' 4", IMFUO, you not only will like them, you "need" them. I'm 6' 6", and I can't even turn most stock bars all the way because they tangle with my knees unless the bike has fwd controls. Plus it almost feels like a "sport bike" reaching "down" to the bars. The thing I really like about my apes, have them on both the chopper and the FLH, is I can pull them back towards me and push them away to assist in changing my riding position. IMO - just don't get them "up there" too far for your height, as the ol' ticker has to push the blood up there, and hands can get a li'l "tingly", if you know what I mean, but then my tickerIS old, relatively speaking.
[sm=offtopic.gif]- How 'bout that Adrian Peterson? Did we score the "hit" of a lifetime with him or what? FINALLY, the front office had their heads out of ..................! Also, one of my riding buddies flies out Friday for your neck of the woods (or non-woods, whichever), Peoria. He rents a Harley, and he and his sister and bro in lawspend a week or so on the road down there. LUCKY DOGS ! ! ! ! ! ! !
