I have been using the 3/4 helmet for years. My only complaint is how hot they getin the summer. If I ever find one, I am gonna get a Capt America 3/4 helmet...Have wanted one since I was in high school.
I have an old, and I mean old, Arthur Fulmer helmet, from around about 1970 or 71. Used it when I was racing motocross as a teen, so it has many battle scars, and then painted, and repainted. Some find it ugly as hell. I think it has character. Worn is ever since then, till the leather snap (yeah, it has snaps on a wide leather band, which is cool) anyway, theleather snap tore in two some few yrs back. Istill use it sometimes, just can't snap it.
I have a H-D Ultra Jet 3/4 with a flip shield. This is the helmet I use the most. Also have a full face (for cold temps) and a half helmet. I find the 3/4 to be the most versatile, so I installed Autocom headsets and boom mike in mine and my wife's. Just a rider to passenger intercom system.
All that baloney about the 3/4 being geeky looking and so forth does'nt mean a thing. It's just a good all around helmet design. The only thing I did away with was the snap on visor. Pretty useless. I just keep the flip shield on and put a strip of tape across the top of the shield to act as a sun visor. Works better.
Worna "3/4"since '68; most of the DOT 1/2 helmets make me look like a mushroom head and I can't stand the way they pull back on your head and neckat 100mph, as well as the wind/exhaust noise...seen Jason Britten using the same one I wore in '68 to hand out poker ralley cards on American Thunder. Bought one for a garage ornament.
Went without a lid in Montana this summer; did enjoy that at cruising speeds in the heat.
I've got one I picked up at a garage sale for about $5 a few years back. I have it displayed on a shelf near our rec room. It is all Budweiser labels. Not stuck on the helmet either. Underneath the clear finish. A bit too small to fit my big melon, but I bought it for the novelty, not to wear. Didn't realize the old metalflake was coming back. The first 3/4 I ever owned was an old 70's metal flake that was given to me. I thought it looked so cheesy I painted it. It all comes back around again eventually though I'm realizing. Have you looked on eBay? You might be able to get a deal there. Just a thought.
