Default Old school Helmets.

What do you guys think about the "old school" helmets? I guess you would call them 3/4 helmets. Open face, over the ears. Jay on American Thunder wears one. As for me, the jurys still out. I've seen more & more ads for them in the bike mags. I guess some of them look kinda cool.
Just wondering.
Joe

I've been seeing more and more of them too. I personally don't like the looks of them and I used one on 3-wheelers and mini bikes and don't like them as much as a 1/2.

I've been wearing one from the 70's and hate it. Manly because I hate helmets. It gets hot, when a gust of wind hits you in the face, it wants to rip your head off. And also, everyone is getting them now because there "old school" (Raped term). It's gone once I'm 18.

What are you looking for in a helmet. Even if you live in a no helmet state, you inevitably pass thru a state who will hypothetically shoot you on sight if you don't have one on. Some states are now putting the serious kybosh on those novelty deals and establishing DOT foam thickness expectations????

A full face flip helmet lets one ride further into the season.

When I do wear one, which isn't often and mainly to keep my ears warm,it's an original '72 Shoei metalflake or a '71 "?" blue metalflake. It's the only type of helmet I've ever worn or will wear.Nothing else fits right.Vinnie85 makes a good point, as it seems everyone wants them now.Biltwell is even making an open face novelty.I think it's pretty cool though ,to see the younger guys riding around on rigidPans, Shovels,or Sportieswearing the old metalflake open face helmets................even better with the yellow or blue bubble shield.

I've ridden all winter in 32 degrees with a 3/4 helmet, and a scarf.

Ive got a flat black Daytona 3/4. Its the same size as the 70's Shoei's and super light, DOT 218approved all for just 60 bucks.
