Has anyone here had anything re-chromed? Or better yet, has anyone had any chrome stripped from rims etc.?
I have Arlen Ness Criss-cross wheels pulley and disc's $2800.00. The worst chrome that I have ever seen. Had them less than 2 yrs. Bike kept in a garage under a cover and never been put away wet or dirty. The wheels are pitting and you can actually see the copper thru the chrome and the pulley has strips of chrome peeling off. Ness refuses to do anything about it. As a matter of fact they even went so far as to say if the bike spent anytime in Florida it would not have been covered under warranty period. So I can either buy new stuff or try and have these stripped and polished since they are billet or have them re-chromed. If they have any corrosion on them will that have to be removed before re plating or will the removal process they use to strip the chrome take care of it?
If anyone has had any experience with this I would appreciate your suggestions.
i know what your going thru. got a complete set of pm wheels, rotors, calipers, forward controls, chrome yellowed. i found a company named classic components out of santa ana ca. phone# 1-888-327-4189. had the wheels & pulley re-chromed, i cannot believe the show quality chrome finish they put on them. was not that expensive, plus they give a 2 year warrany. we just finished installing last week. i think the web site is www.classiccomponents.com... look um up i don't think you have anything to lose. i'm very satisfied. turnaround time was about 2 1/2 week
Yea, something about the salt air. Something else I found out was that HD extended warranty's won't cover chrome components after initial warranty in Fla. Go figure?
A lot of Arlen Ness parts get sent back to poor chroming. I have a friend the runs a bike shop and has sent back quite a few sets of Ness mirrors for bad chrome. And they were never put on a bike.
On a scale of 1 to 10, Ness's quality in parts and chrome has hit an all time low of about 3.
That 'salt air in Florida' line is a crock of $hiit
Unless you're dipping your rims in the ocean, pitting chrome is either a case of neglict (obviously not the case here) or a cheap @ss chrome job. If thats how Ness threats their customer, i'll wipe with their next catalog.
Good news there is a batch of good platers in Florida. One of the best is Mark Plating in West Palm Beach FLorida. They specilize in show quality bike stuff. I've had them do Harley, BSA, Triumph items and parts for my old GTO and they never fail to impress.
Chrome Masters here n Nashvlle does a fne job.....google them, they should be out there.
Talked to those guys, 6 to 8 week turn around! Kristin owner of God Fathers choppers here in Memphis thinks she can get the local chrome shop to get them back to me in a coupla weeks. What worries me is that if the billet under the chrome on the rims has started to corrode will the stripping process get rid of it or will it need to be re surfaced (sanded)and then chromed. It would be stupid of me to have them re chromed if the corrosion is still there. I can't get an answer from anyone about this. Does anyone know if the stripping process takes care of the corrosion?
