You are very right to be concerned!! I put the cooler on my 2005,about two months later,I was checking them and one was stuck to the frame rail,it was not installed that close but with the heat it must have gotten closer.I took and put heater hose around the oil lines and cable tied them on,no more problems.I just split the heater hose so as not to have to take my oil lines back off.

So do the work well to bring down temps? When moving I would expect it but in heavy traffic do they make much of a difference?
Like any radiator, it needs moving air to be effective. I have had one on my 95" since day one. I have never seen my oil temp above 215 deg - even on the hottest day.

one tip i read a while back about the oil lines is to use a piece of heat shrink to protect the hose where you clamp it.

i plan on giving it a try when i install my cooler next pm.

I put one on my 07 FXSTC before Daytona Bike Week last year. In the stop and go traffic downtown the temp never read over the 215 degrees it is set for. Rember that it is a radiator and heat goes off off it even when standing still. Just like those in houses. Gives more surface area for cooling. The Fins on the motor work when standing still. just not as well. The heated oil is being pumped through the cooler and heat is given off.

At the time I did not know that you could get one with a 215 or 195 thermostat. I would have gotten the 195.

I have the lower front mount one. The other is mounted up higher. Both look good but the lower mount looks like it should be there. I would post a pic but try as i do I have gotten it to work yet.

Many air cooled bikes such as the Yamaha Warrier come with oil coolers. It is not a neccessity just a good idea. Cooler running = more power and longer life.

Do you know that the ideal temp for a four cycle engine is? It is 160 degrees. Back in the day that is the thermastats that cars had then along came polution controls.
