ORIGINAL: Lead Well, heck of a first post I know, but...
I'm a retired "street cop" and well, I thought you should know that if they actually are "1%'ers" (and I shant mention club names), basically you're talkin thugs with short fuses. You should treat them the same way you would treat any other thug or you're liable to get yourself hurt. If you decide to get lippy with one, you better have plenty of backup and be prepared to having to deal with him and his buddies at a later date. They tend to have long memories and carry a grudge.
On the other hand, I've known a few cops that were just as bad, and frankly, quite the thugs themselves. Lead
What he said.... It's not likely that you'll fight just one of them and it's just as unlikely that they'll stop beating on you after you go unconcious. Honor or Respect has little to do with it...

OJ-

The picture is from a recent photo session I had with a photographer who handles all of my advertising photos, like ads, business cards, etc. I used to have a goatee for years then shaved it so I thought that new photos were in order. As it turns out the photographer's studio is next door to a custom bike builder. Consequently my photographer has taken several photos of the custom bikes, along with scantily clad young ladies who modeled for the photo sessions. Needless to say, it's the kind of place you'd like to be at when they are shooting custom bike photos. I've offered to be the boy with the spray mister bottle to help keep the models cool and to aid in those perfect glistening skin type shots. But hey, that's just me. I'm a giver...always trying to help out and do my my part.

Appreciate your honesty on that one. I've enjoyed reading many of these post, I especialy get a kick outta those who are "not in the loop" who innocently ask the obvious questions. Goes to show how times have changed. I will not offer any affiliation, but just a few comments. (Respect) should not be confused with fear! I keep reading that here, the respect thing borders trembling, pissing your pants acting like ya met Elvis or something. Jeesh. Another comment (kinda), few years back Im riding in NH during bikeweek. My RoadKing at the time had a habit of finding a "false neutral" so I limped her into the shoulder off Rt 16. Oh, say about 100 F'N bikes went by in 2 minutes (just an observation) I examined the shift linkage to determine if something came loose and 1 lone scooter pulls up along side of me(asked if I needed a hand). Dude w/ his ol'lady. I JUST managed to get her into 1st again and told the guy "I think Im alright, no panic situation" He offered to ride alongside a bit to MAKE SURE. We rode a few miles, all was OK and I let him know. Anyhow, point being he was a patch holder from a local NH-Maine club- 3 pc club, not a "riding social club". All the socialites decided to pass me by, thanks so much.
The only club ya need to fear rides in a state police car-will pull you over WITHOUT reasonable cause-ask illegal questions while your NOT under arrest-search your belongings without a warrant-attempt to intimidate you or have you remove your riding glasses "to see you"-hand you a ticket for loud exhaust WITHOUT any mechanical inclination,or decibal testing without the proper equipment-speak to you in a threatening condencending manner and attempt to irk you into a confrontation (which is how they determine if your sheep or real MAN) . Ride your Harley long enough, you WILL be in this position one day as your made an example of. And you probably wont appreciate it.
Nevermind the patcholders, watch the badgeholders.

If you're talking about one percenter patch holders, I'll admit that I'd rather take my chances with the cops. Pretending that the one percenters are just some kind of harmless nice guys is a BIG mistake.

This is what I (a formerly British woman, who has never seen a motorcycle movie) gets out of this thread.

1%ers are eerily akin to groups of school yard bullies back in grade school.

1%ers might as well wear a gigantic sign on their vests which read - high potential of being a dodgy thug - be wary if in vicinity.

1%ers have very little sense of humor (regarding a certain 'patchholder' comment I once made...)

If one should come across person with 1% patch on vest, be very respectful, blend into insignificance, and try and give no excuses to have the crap beaten out of you. Also note to self, that said bar/restaurant/bike shop/rally is not really YOUR type of hangout.

However R/Cs and AMA approved M/C members are cool.

Does that about sum it up?

Got a problem with authority, huh???? You are absolutely right though.... we all know those guys in the state police car are gonna steal your scoot, sell dope to your sister, and start a gun battle in a casino full of innocent citizens! And don't call them if you need help because they are just out to take advantage of you! They won't help you find your stolen scoot, and god forbid they might intimidate the thug that took it. Who needs em?

Tell that to these guys families http://www.odmp.org/ I’m sure every last one of em was just like you described.
