Default EPA Bull$hit?

Can anyone help me with some guidance or direction?

I have been eye-ing a bobber rolling chassison EBAY for a while now. But I am concerned over the EPA crap I read so much about last year, the '1 bike per lifetime' rule, 'can't dispose of it for 5 years' rule, etc. I have read about a number of attempts for exceptions, but not sure if any of them got implemented... I wm wondering things like... if just using an EPA approved motor will that satisfy all the requirements.

Heck I even went to the EPA website yesterday to try to read up on it, but me understanding that legalese was like watching a monkey try to do a math problem.

Is anyone up on the current EPA rules for custom bikes, or can anyone point me to a place where I can do more research? I am concerned over sinking a bunch of money in a project and thennot being able to title or ride/enjoy it.

Make it EPA compliant, get it reg'd then do what you want with it just like it was a new Harley. S&S sells an EPA compliant EFI motor, use a stock hd exhaust system that has the EPA stamp, turn signals and all the other BS, then make it yours.

We built a kit bike. Compliant Revtec motor, datec frame, all the nifty goodies, and compliant V&H exhaust, PM turnsignals. We had the bike inspected by a certified motor cycle inspector and presented all the paperwork to the Cal DMV. We were issued ownership papers (pink slip) registration and licence plates. We then sold the V&H compliant exhaust, took off anything that didn't make it fast (turn signals) and finished off a VERY NASTY, VERY FAST, VERY LOUD bar hopper hardtail. If you E-bay (buy then sell) most of the required stuff, it won't cost that much. I think we were out a couple hundred when all was said and done.

How bad do you want that nasty-assed bobber???
