Whichever ones you choose, I would suggest you get a lined pair. Easier to put on/take off, and the liner adds some insulation for the colder days.

Cheers!

Not sure on the LA area, but I have seen "Interstate Leather" brand chaps at farm stores and truck stops. (can you tell I'm from the midwest?). Quality is very nice and price is affordable. I've got a pair and they fit great and are well made.

And, no, I don't look gay in them! : )

I bought mine local when i bought my leather jacket, the chaps I have are thick and have a mesh like lining in them, that holds the leather off your legs for both cold weather and summer heat comfort

Buy local and try on before you buy just to be sure they fit. Tim

I want chaps that loop over my belt and snap. I don't want the ones that belt in front. They are sort of like long leggings, But I can't find them anywhere.

I know there's some great on-line prices but...I notice big variation in sizing. Large too small, mediums too big. Some of the outfits like fox creek will talk you through it if you call with dimensions. Even then, you wind up wanting to fine tune the fit a little. My advice is go somewhere you can try them on with the pants you usually wear

I know these are very expensive, but I bought the Men's Deluxe Leather Chaps from HD. I figured I would only buy one pair, so why not get the best. I really don't know about all of the other chaps out there, but I know these are great. They fit great, and are very warm and comfortable.

Don't buy anything from Harley unless you like being a$$ raped, big money crappy leather. Most of Harley's leathers are imported from who "F-ing" knowswhere!!!

For about the same $ you should be able to get a pair of Vanson chaps that will last you an eternity. Also, won't rip like toilet paper if you should ever go down (hope not)... Vanson leathers are some of the best money can buy you will have them for a lifetime.

I would suggest going to a bike show or a local leather specialty shop and trying them on with the pant and boots you plan on wearing with them. Having a selection of different styles and sizes to choose from is always a good thing.

I wear XL on everything I have but I couldn't get the XL chaps I wanted to fit over my thighs. I'm 36 waist but have big thighs and calfs. I had to go to an XXL in the chaps to fit my thighs and now I'm looking for a leather guy who can put a few extra holes with eyelets in them for me in the back to help get a better fit in the waist. Worth 4 or 5 dollars in my opinion for a pair that aren't streched across my thighs like I'm in an 80's hair band.

Also get a good thick leather with a liner. Look at the ends of the leather to make sure it was not just top-dyed. If it was done correctly it would have been dipped or soaked in the dye and the color will be all the way through the leather. That way if you ever get a scratch or a tear, it will not be so noticible.

You don't have to spend a fortune, I only spent $148 for mine at a local leather shop that caters to the biker crowd. But you should remember that "You get what you pay for" and these are supposed to keep the skin on your legs and help protect you in inclement weather, not just a fashion statement.

Rick
