Have any of you done this I want to pull the front wheel and fender and completely buff-out //Polish my front (lower forks)
What products are used and what type of wheel and how much speed ,like can I use a high speed drill
or will I need an air driven gun
I tried jewelers rouge and a drill it smoothed the finish but did not shine the fork
I am trying to get a chrome like appearance
I did this with some touring lowers.I removed them
where looking at your post I think you're going to
try doing them while they remain on the bike.
There was a clearcoat on the legs that had to come off first.
I used aircraft stripper and the clearcoat bubbled up
and wiped off easily.
I noticed an immediate difference in the color. They
appear much more silver, for lack of a better term, than
they did with the clearcoat.
Next I started with 800 grit wet or dry paper and worked
my way through 800,1200,1500,and 2000 if I remember
correctly. After finishing the 2000 I cleaned them up
and used a dremel with a fine buffing wheel and as you
suggested above ,jewelers rouge.
I'd do them myself. It won't take that long and isn't difficult.
A little elbow grease is all it takes.
Save the $120 for something else you're wanting.
Are you against chrome lowers? You can buy those
online from the HD dealers with the 20-25% discounts
for about $200. That reason alone makes it hard for me to
justify paying $120 to have a used set polished.
Mikes right. You have to buff them forever more. If you want the look, get them chromed. I buffed mine on my last Goldwing, and it was a pain in the ***. I ended up clearcoating them, after buffing. All the work wasn't worth it.
