Im new to the forum and dont even have my bike yet. The bike Im looking at is a 2005 Sporty 883. The dealership has it up for 6000 but it ha 24,000 KMS on it. I was wondering if this was too much. What should I be looking at as far as maintenance and what should I imagine would have to be done to it as far as major repairs soon? Should I just stay away? Thanks in advance!
That seems a bit high to me for a high mileage bike. With the economy the way it is, wait 'till spring and you should be able to find a lower mileage Sporty for the same price. If the bike was properly maintained, you shouldn't have any problems. I'd make sure the tires are in good shape. You shouldn't have to spend another $400 for tires and installation.
That sounds a bit too high for a two-year old 883 with that kind of mileage. You could get a new one (with EFI) for not much more, especially if you buy from a US-based dealer. Big Sky HD in Great Falls, MT markets their pre-owned bikes towards Canadian buyers.
As far as maintenance, I wouldn't expect any major problems, as long as the bike as been properly maintained and on schedule (the dealer should have that paperwork to prove it). These late-model HDs can last well over 100K miles.
Hmmmm..................24000 KM is only about 15000 miles............for a 3 year old bike that does not seem at all high to me, especially considering my 05 has just shy of 30000 miles on it! 15000 miles is only 5000 per year, and that's definately NOT high miles by any means. I do think you should be able to get a better price for a nice Sporty of that year/condition.
I agree with troll on the miles **** i had 10,000 miles on my bike by the end of my first 5months right now its sitting here with 11,000 miles on it and not even a year old until june 2008 and if we didn't have winter time it would have more.
But i think the price is too high for a 2005 with 15k on it and an 883 thats to high price...
to give you an idea here are the MSRP from HD website on 2007/2008
So to me a 2005 sporster with 15,000 miles is no way a deal for $6,000 when a 07 or 08 new no miles and warranty is only $600 more
